I may be reading this wrong, but they are talking about the great things that the fans are doing, and then they have that picture. Didn't the Zags fans get in trouble for things like that?

That sign isn't much different than things that happen on every college campus where there is some excitement. It is pretty mild compared to what comes out of their mouth. The Sac Coach exchanged some words with some NAU fans after their game last night. The fans are passionate, the Coach is, things get said, people react, it can get ugly real fast.

Who cares, they are bragging about getting 3000 fans to a game, says something about their program doesnt it?

Editable signs are the way to go! You can change it for whatever situation comes up. It isn't lazy, it's genius. ;)

Wow that article gave me chills! Sounds like a pretty lame attempt to get people excited about a sterile atmosphere.

Plus, a couple of Griz students started to bring a whiteboard to the games this season and had some pretty creative stuff on it!

Point in case

Our basketball team may not make it to the elite eight, but our hardcore students, pep band and other assorted hecklars would contend for the title of 'best fans' every year.

I could tell from watching the game that NAU's students have 0% charisma and creativity.

It's not as offensive to Montana as it is to the Gay community. I can't believe that the editor let that picture go to print. I wouldn't be suprised to see them get some comments on the picture and will probably issue an apology within a week.

It's more the paper's fault than it is the fan's fault. But when Gonzaga goes through a big ordeal that gets national attention, the AD has to respond to this or else he's asking for trouble. I would guess that if the AD is smart, he doesn't allow marker boards tonight.

If he does, I have one that is much bigger than that one. :thumb:

My first sign tonight:

"Hey! Look at me, I have a markerboard!"

Promptly followed by:

"My markerboard is bigger than your markerboard."

Oh, the creativity of MGR. First the MSU sign, now this. You never cease to amaze.

I agree that I can't believe they let that picture get in there. The article was not bad, especially when they talk to the UM fans :thumb:. I just can't believe they would add that in there, with all the heat that Gonzaga just took.

Not so much that we dont have it is us because if you go to a football game then obviously we know how to get loud, but it is the fact that we dont know WHEN to cheer or how to do it at a basketball game. It has been 20 years since weve had to get up for a game of importance and I think we will start to figure it out if Coach K doesnt leave

Swilly,

You have no clue what you are talking about. You start talking about 20 years ago when you are 16 now???? We had several 20 plus win seasons in the 90's up through 1996-97. We were still averaging 6000 plus per game and selling out several conference games. The crowds in those days knew when to cheer. Basketball is different than FB, the loud noise gets players going. The only time our crowd should tone it down in hoops is when we are shooting a free throw, or it is National Anthem time.

So we should make some noise when the griz have the ball too?

That doesn't make sense. How can the momentum be established if we're constantly loud. There has to be a rhythm to the noise for there to be a message in it.

We have to make an inconsistant, irritating, and unique din, in my opinion, to have any affect on the other team's play.

If we have a bunch of mooks copying that boring "ohhhhh" holler that they see on TV, then it's just positive reinforcement for the opponents (e.g, make a basket, shut the crowd up) because they've heard it a thousand times and they're used to it.

Simply making noise isn't effective. You need to put some thought into it to make a difference in the game.

The article sounds like it was written by a nun. The students are doing some really precious things.( what a dork, hope she falls on a cactus and stimulates some feeling).

For me, I like when the crowd counts the times the opponent bounces the ball on FT's. Loud and in unison is very effective.
