OFFICIAL GAME THREAD- GRIZ vs. App St

Most of the short throws were going from right to left on the tv. I see that the wind is currently 15mph, gusting to 18. Don't know which way the wind was blowing, but wind can affect throws both ways.

My 2 cents. I gave 10 points for their home field/crowd; so we won. What can you say about Moore? McKinney is a competitor. Needed some help from young receivers who have to work harder to get open and fight for the ball. Trent was ready to throw but had pull it back and got into freshman trouble when he had to try to force things to happen. You won't be able to keep Holmes out of the starting lineup. Player. Offensive and defensive lines won their battles. They're men. Good to see Tonga return. We need him. Secondary was too tentative. Paulson defense is back. Unfortunately. They made halftime adjustments. Thought Rosie called a good game. More positives than negatives. Mick was into it. Lucky to have him. We'll be fine.

The freshman quarterback looked like a freshman at times tonight. When he had to pass downfield, we had difficulties. I like the kid, but there are definitley some limitations in his game. Some of it can be solved with experience. Some of it may not.
I will sit here and bite my tongue... and call my Grandmother, who might have a better arm. Shiny Bobble definitely is a JJ clone - with probably more quicks and escapability, but no drive on his passes with his sidearm delivery. But as our new motto at WaGriz is - Live by the sword... die by the sword... out of the playoffs in the quarters or semi's every year.

The two of you don't know what you're talking about. McKinney has a very nice and fairly strong arm.
He also has 4 interceptions (in two games) to go with that nice strong throwing arm :?

McKinney doesn't have a weak arm but he has a LOT of work to do on his mechanics and he needs to work on progressing his reads. He stared down his targets on every throw and missed out on some opportunities of some recievers breaking open down field.

On the other hand, besides the few interceptions, he played a smart game and made good decisions. Also, those screen throws are very difficult and he did well keeping his composure and making those plays. He is a young QB with very little experience. He's going to learn a lot this year and improve a ton.

The last interception was a ball thrown up for grabs on the goal line with 16 seconds left. It was fine. The prior interception came on a blatant non-PI call, where the defender completely and blocked the receiver, impeding him from moving forward. The first interception was not a good throw. Did you even watch the game?

Considering what we have been through prior to the start of the season, I would say we are in pretty good shape. TM will be fine. He just went into the big house with a hostile crowd and we lost by a touchdown. Not the result we wanted, but we can build off this loss. All you chicken littles need to settle down. We have a long season and the players have nothing to hang their heads about. Go Griz - I actually saw many things to be excited about and a few we need to work on!

An interception is still an interception. Now don’t take my comment as trash talk I think this QB will be fine just needs some more time And yes I did watch this game it was a pretty good one :thumb:

I'll take that loss any day. Great game, and we stayed in it where other teams would of laid down and died. Couldn't be more excited for next week's game vs Liberty!

that missed extra point deflated the team, without a doubt. you could see it on their faces - it created a sense of desperation, instead of "let's tie it up".
I agree. I feel bad for Lider, but....

Every kick he has done is pulled to the right....better work on it.

Good point, putter. Leave it to a Butte guy to have a good feel for football.

I noticed this too during the game and was worried he was going to eventually miss a kick, unfortunately....

Nope, an interception is not an interception, except for the stats. If you don't understand that, then you don't understand the game.

Oh really so what your saying is that the interceptions didn’t effect the game in any way other than the stats. Weird maybe you didn’t watch the game ;)

Normally, I'd agree. Late in the game, desperation time, a lobbed INT wouldn't really matter.

However, McKinney didn't need to force that throw at that time. I won't hold it against him, as he played his fucking heart out in that last drive, but not a great decision to take a shot like that. Get the first down, stop the clock, and who knows what could have happened.

I don't think that's all that much of a big deal; if someone's open, they're open. It's like game-theory; if you try to outsmart someone, you end up outsmarting yourself. What really bothered me is that Nguyen was a non-entity all game and our punter only had one decent kick.

Agreed. Much like a fumble isn't just like any other fumble, except in the stat sheet.

I was hoping we would redshirt Caleb Kidder but I guess that is not the plan.

I started out hoping we'd reshirt Holmes...now I'm glad we didn't!

The difference is Holmes played the entire game...I only saw #44 in for 1 play :?
