Official Game Day Thread Brawl of The Wild : Griz/Cat or Cat/Griz

This was a full team failure today but I think Pease is the weakest link. There is no freaking universe in which a screen on 3rd and 17 is acceptable.

Mellott graduates this year, so the Cats are going to have to go through some QB development and possibly some offensive restructuring next summer. As for the Griz, a new offense and something other than the moldy old 3-3-5 defense would be welcome at this point.

Idk wtf happened to the Griz offense... First part of the year the offense looked pretty innovative, second half just went complete vanilla and o line gave up.

And no one on this team had any fire in them. Something that's been missing all year. Very disappointing.

Fire both Tim and Cooper, find a real DC. Worst defense I've seen since fucking Semore.

With the expectations coming off of a Championship run, I agree. But having watched the entire season, I had tempered my expectations accordingly. Leveling expectation to match reality is key in keeping disappointment to a minimum.
Same. I really wasn't stressed this game because I knew we would lose. I'm just happy it wasn't as bad as at I thought it would be.

Congrats to the Cats. They are talented sound football team. We were never in this game.

But the writing was on the wall from the start of the season for this team:
--Too often, as today, an opponent with the better qb. (As I said at the beginning of the season, two quarterbacks equal no quarterback.)
--Uncharacteristically poor tackling for a Hauck-coached team:
--A way too porous secondary;
--A good but not great O-Line. (Note the number of big O-linemen in this recruiting class.)

Tough game to watch if you're a Griz fan. This was Jake Paul versus Mike Tyson.
I would add that the O had several missed blocks that would have allowed the griz to get first downs.

Honestly we just didn’t execute in this game. If we just make a few more plays, catch a few more balls, we could’ve kept it in striking distance. I actually thought the defense did a pretty good job today. They got wore down in the 4th quarter but they did everything they possibly could have to keep us in it in the first 3 quarters.

The offense needed to make more plays. Fife had zero time to throw today, hence why it was a lot of check down throws. I’m ok with the play calling for the most part. Guys need to catch balls and not get stupid penalties. That was the difference. Getting shut out in the 3rd quarter was brutal. If we could’ve got a score in the third, it may have got interesting in the 4th.

Two years ago when we lost here, I thought we were totally outclassed and didn’t even belong on the field. I didn’t feel that today. It was more of just a lack of execution and production at times from the offense. We had every opportunity to get back into this game, and we squandered every chance.

Good post. My general view too.

In what world would it make sense for he Cats to restructure their offense? They have a mobile QB as their backup right now, but the offense it still heavily featuring the run behind a deep OL. I do think that the 3-3-5 defense is a fad and there is a reason most teams don't play it. I admittedly don't know much about the Griz backups, so it may work for them in the future.

Agreed. I’m with you, I think the losses in Bozeman during the last two trips were far bigger beat downs than today. I think it makes it that much more disappointing. Also, agree that we missed multiple opportunities to make this a different game. A couple early plays that come to mind are the two missed INT opportunities that could have both been pick 6’s and the inability to get the Cats off the field when they were faced with a 2 and 19 and then a 3rd and 7, this lead to their first score. So many bad penalties in the first half too….definitely set the tone in a negative way.
