1. Add in some screen plays and Halfback wheel route. That's so set up already. Teams 100% expect our HB to be used as the short flat option. Defenses are overly aggressive to limit the swing pass.
2. Use more motion with fly sweeps, motion Bergen and Harris (our smaller backs) pre snap to run various patterns. That forces mismatches with a safety or LB to cover them. It also takes away focus from Akem. The motion also make pre snap reads easier for your qb and receiving options.
3. Multiple quick hitting patterns such as slants, crosses, ins, outs, and hooks. It's a matter of time before a defender or defenders get lost with crossing routes.
4. Pay more attention to matchups for Akem and Grossman. They're physically imposing forces. Not many defenders will successfully beat them with properly thrown contested passes. Both Akem's touchdowns against UNC were exactly this.
5. When healthy, more runs for our bigger backs. Child's short TD run against UNC gave me hope for that. That's the short yardage tough running we need. Physically, Harris and Bergen aren't to that point yet.
These are just a few things off the top of my head. I'm sure, some can add to these things.
Have you considered sending this to Bobby or any of the other coaches?
It's their team. I'm just a fan.
