Offensive wrinkles

So, how can our OL be helped to minimize their inconsistent play?

1. Add in some screen plays and Halfback wheel route. That's so set up already. Teams 100% expect our HB to be used as the short flat option. Defenses are overly aggressive to limit the swing pass.

2. Use more motion with fly sweeps, motion Bergen and Harris (our smaller backs) pre snap to run various patterns. That forces mismatches with a safety or LB to cover them. It also takes away focus from Akem. The motion also make pre snap reads easier for your qb and receiving options.

3. Multiple quick hitting patterns such as slants, crosses, ins, outs, and hooks. It's a matter of time before a defender or defenders get lost with crossing routes.

4. Pay more attention to matchups for Akem and Grossman. They're physically imposing forces. Not many defenders will successfully beat them with properly thrown contested passes. Both Akem's touchdowns against UNC were exactly this.

5. When healthy, more runs for our bigger backs. Child's short TD run against UNC gave me hope for that. That's the short yardage tough running we need. Physically, Harris and Bergen aren't to that point yet.

These are just a few things off the top of my head. I'm sure, some can add to these things.

Have you considered sending this to Bobby or any of the other coaches?

It's their team. I'm just a fan.

Right? Would it kill this team to run a freaking screen play once in a while?

Left? How about more fumblerooski? It’s there, all day long.

Well, we did run a statue of liberty play earlier this year so I'm down with the fumblerooski!

I think it's tough running traditional screens out of spread RPO sets because there are too many potential tacklers too far out of the box who can't be fooled. You end up having to run bubble screens which ends up reminding Griz fans of Stitt which ends up causing domestic difficulties because it ends up leading to excessive alcohol consumption.

It is the same one and Bergen did not completely take him out, he bounced inside put his hand down and kept rushing. Bergan barely slowed him down.
Exactly. Hoage.

At least OL never lets anyone through uncontested! :thumb:

I hate to do this :dead: but how about an offensive line that can sustain blocks and even pick up blitzes. They need a come to Jesus moment and quickly.
That's a little more than a "wrinkle."

I bet Kemajic could coach AZGrizfan, Soldiergriz and myself and probably another military person on here into outstanding O-Lineman in a week. We would use our military training to stop defenders. And I bet we could do it as good or better in less then week then this O-Line has done all year. Discipline is an amazing attribute....

I’m in, but I’m gonna have to take 19 out of every 20 plays off. You good with that?

Going to be tough to find cheerleaders for you guys, Fred's is closed.

Maybe some Triple Option or toss sweeps, that may keep the DE'.s from just Pinning their Ears Back and Charging like their Hair is On Fire. It is Obvious that our OL along with Small backs cannot run inside the Tackles, save a counter or inside trap.. But opinions are like A------s everyone has one. Go Griz 9-2 !!!

Reinell30, i don't think utilizing military training and discipline is the answer. I hear some humans still go to jail for shooting other humans. It'd be a hell of a dominating Oline for one play tho...lol
