But he has to start to improve somewhere first....
He is slow to read and react then he takes bad lines to the ball. This puts him out of position quite often making tackling harder..........don't hold your breath on him getting better....he hasn't improved much in his career so far.

This was a HUGE problem last year. Got caught on his heels a lot.

Well I hope our coaches wise up and make the right decisions when it comes to replacing him. I don't think anyone do any worse. Let a freshman play in his spot or someone. I know this is probably wishful thinking with our coaches....

Connor Strahm will be a factor at safety this fall from what I see. By game four or five he will be in the rotation.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=56Vr13VnuUQ" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

That's why I put Stahm at the TOP of the list of recruits we absolutely HAD to land. :thumb: :thumb:

I watched Strahm play when he was a JR. Bet he will be a LB for the Griz. I don't think he has the closing speed to be a collegiate Safety and he wasn't a great tackler when I watched him. Very good and very heady player though. Dominant player Offensively too. I see him being an excellent OLB for us in a couple years if he doesn't play WR. I'd be surprised if he were in the rotation as a true freshmen though.

Why isn't Van Ackeren more prominant on the depth charts, whether at safety, where he is needed, or at LB, not so much? He certainly has the credentials and it sounded like he had a decent spring. The coaching staff love affair with Hermanson and Tulley continues to mystify. They seem to value experience (good or bad) over potential.

Van Ackeren isn't more prominent on the depth chart at safety because it would make things a little "uneasy" at the next Delaney/ Hermanson family bbq. Can you imagine the reaction when Delaney has to finally tell Hermanson's dad that his
journeyman kid isn't the starter any more? South Dakota HS football will be shaken to it's core.

It's the business of the collegiate football ... and the game of life. Don't hate the player, change the rules.

A quick football question.

Anybody know what happened to Mitch Saylor? I see he had surgery of some type on his ankle or leg. Has a big ol cast on it.

And now back to your regularly schedule bitch fest.

I bet you are right, I believe he is slated for OLB.

So you are saying an OLB that is a poor tackler?

agree completely..........in addition he would have to improve this year as much as coach delaney to me make me a believer in him.

If he learns to wrap up, he'll be fine. He was able to dominate people with his speed and strength in HS. The game I saw, and it was just one game, he was arm tackling or laying his shoulder into people without wrapping up. He can get away with that in HS, but won't be able to at the college level. He's a great pickup for us and has a good chance of being a great college player, but I don't see him as our saving grace at safety next fall.

People said the EXACT same thing about Tru as a corner and now he's in the NFL--laying his shoulder into people.

Q: If he has the speed to play WR; why would he not have the speed to play safety and close on plays?

Ryan McKinley and Connor Strahm are both 4.7 forty guys. Not blazers by any means. But they both have great instincts and technique that allows them to succeed at their positions. Connor can be a safety at this level. That being said, with how much Gregorak has turned linebackers into safeties and safeties into linebackers, it's anybody's guess as to where he finally ends up.

He has good hands and is very good after the catch. That has more to do with his strength, balance and vision than it does his speed. I think he could be effective in the slot and be good on bubble screens and the short passing game. I don't think he has the speed to spread the field, but we have other receivers that have the physical make up to play the x and z receiver positions.

Just watching him that one game, he seems to have much more promise at LB than S. Didn't appear to have the closing speed or hips you look for in safeties. He appears to have the frame to add some bulk as well.

My opinion is that he will be an outstanding OLB for us someday. Could be a Jordan Tripp kind of athlete for us.

Has anyone seek an official depth chart for the University of Montana? :|

The official roster is listed as 2012 ... it's not like their recruiting or something like that. :)

C'mon Roland and Mick. You don't have to publish an official depth chart, but update the official info. :)
