Old news, but I heard that UM offered MSU qb Anderson a preferred walk on. UM alums told Stitt that Anderson was great. Stitt said he didn't fit his offense. The alums said who cares, he could be a great linebacker.

I would assume by whom you know, that this is probably accurate. But I would preface this with the chances that Anderson would have come to Missoula were not much better than zero anyway. I get not wanting to spend a lot of recruiting effort on him, but he still deserved a better offer than a PWO. Too bad a majority of the recruiting effort was used on finding the right kids to fit the offense as opposed to finding the best kids to make a complete team.
Yep, the Griz had as much chance landing Andersen as they did the Hashley kid from Kalispell. Too many family ties to MSU.

Perhaps true, but UM has landed "Cat" kids before. For example, Ty Timmer. His dad played on Cats' '84 national championship team and his mom was a point guard for the Lady Cats. They were as Bobcat as they come. Before Ty came to UM, the mom used to tell our son when she saw him wearing a Griz shirt, to take it off so she could clean the toilet with it. The parents came to really like Hauck and Gregorak, as well as the UM football program. Their 2d and 3d sons played for the Cats.

Just a thought, I wouldn't expect this recruiting mission to be widely publicized or a social media event like some schools make them now, let's not get nervous if we don't see a bunch of faces on Twitter being recruited, it's not really Hauck's way. But I'm pretty sure he's on the hunt now that he knows how the deck is stacked.

Not only that, but the more publicized the OL recruit will be on social media, the more in demand they may be. There are plenty of sleepers around and perhaps BH knows some people that have a guy wanting to transfer. They may not be publicizing it and he's on the way. So as every one has said, with JC and drop downs, no news is good news very often. If nothing happens after the signing period in February, well, then, that's when it's time to panic. A lot can happen between now and semester end. there will be departing kids, some surprises I'm sure. That'll open up scholarships to then pursue others. We all want 3 iowa or Wisconsin OL drop downs that will maul FCS defenses, and want them now. I'm willing to see the dust settle through the "normal" signing period before I start throwing $&!# across the room and asking for people to put for sale signs in BH yard.

I do see some similarities to the corner situation last year. However, I think that’s a good and wise point. Wait until the dusk settles in February before overreacting. If we look at it then and nothing was really done then Hauck should be owed some criticism.

I’m new to this forum, but somewhat knowledgeable on the subject of Oline and the Griz program. Every team wants the players that will progress into All Americans, but the reality is the percentages are low with nutrition.
When it comes to the Griz Oline (Hauck or Stitt) recruits the common denominator is Germer. If anyone believes that the position coach isn’t all in on a recruit and aware of who’s being offered then your kidding yourself. Germer had to of watched film on all Oline offers prior to BH’s hire. He was the one to hold down the fort in the hiring process, correct!
I’m not bashing Germer just stating fact-
-Germer likes height, 6’6”+
-Run blocking takes leverage (low man wins) you have to be athletic and aggressive
-Pass blocking is passive and requires very little athleticism, especially if they are only rushing 4, just have long arms and keep them away from you
-The Griz roster is full of 6’6”+ pass blockers
-NDSU runs the ball, they have “3” Oline on there roster over 6’5”
If a team wants to be a power run offense then recruit that style of Oline. It seems to be working for NDSU.

The two board comedians! Well, I’m 78 fellas and there have been times I’ve believed I could block better than what this team can block. Then, I hear how nasty some of the players are....I don’t think so.
It's a little different than tennis, Spank.

I don't know much about o-line and what it takes to run and pass block, but my former teammate's son, Brian O'Neill of the Vikings, is extremely athletic and 6'7", 300 or so. 2d round draft choice earlier this year and now starting at right tackle for Vikes. Converted TE in college. 4.80 and 4.82 40's at the Combine.

He is a pretty good pass blocker already, due to his athleticism. Sometimes get bull-rushed, but doesn't give up sacks. He lacks a bit in run blocking, because he doesn't yet have enough strength and size.

Nov. 15 article:

"He's since turned his first NFL start, replacement duty in Week 6 vs. Arizona, into the full-time job at right tackle. Only five other NFL tackles have played as much as ONeill (382 snaps) and not yet surrendered a sack this season, according to PFF."

He’s an acception and not a rule. I agree with that post. It used to be back in the day that only the tackles were tall. Now at the high levels, height for guards too. I Thin a good happy medium is where it’s at in fcs

I think we can expect December to be a pretty quite time for recruits being named. I suspect once bowl season is over or mostly over we might hear about possible drop downs. I would imagine that if a young guy is looking to transfer and happens to be on a bowl eligible team they will want to be part of that experience. The coaches may very well have names of potential jucos, but are not making a move because the coaches want to wait and see who comes available after bowl season. Coaches basically thinking they might be able to land better talent after bowl season and want to wait before they offer a spot to a Juco.
Just all speculation and may be way off base.

Spanky: I am 79, and totally agree, save and except a fella by the name of Merlin Olsen. FYI, we got tossed for a little extra curriculum activity. He really hated the low blocks..
