A FAR cry from the old white wooden Dornblaser that sat at the base of Mt. Sentinel next to the old men's gym. As a young lad, I watched many a MCHS and U of M football game in that place. WOW, what a magnificent change. Congrats on the rating, 11th in all the nation is x-tra impressive IMO. Hats off to all that made it so.

Wait, you mean that there was an OLDER, more woodener Dornblaser than the one that sat at the corner of Higgins and South that I attended games at in MY childhood?

Oh ya!!!!!!!!!!!!    Dornblaser Field is the name of two...iz until an off-campus stadium opened in 1968
The real Dornblaser was behind Main Hall and was demoed to accommodate construction of new buildings. The move off campus was a real negative to the program and it went on for 18 years. I'm not sure why Swarthout ever stood for it. By '68 the original stadium was dated and poorly maintained, but the State Interscholastic Track Meet had been held there; a very fast cinder track. It was much better than the cheapo down south, which never deserved the name Dornblaser. The practice fields used to be where Wash/Griz now stands.

My freshman year, I froze my ass off sitting in the "new" Dornblaser field, and watched the Cats crush us in the old ugly stadium in Bozeman. But next year... WaGriz opened with that game against Eastern. I don't remember much (good tailgate parties!), but the Griz got a gift from the refs. I can't remember the Eastern coach's name, but he was a character and said he 'always felt like a whore on a Saturday night when he came to Missoula.' Great start to the era!
Say what you will about all the great players and coaches we've had that helped build the Grizzly football program into what it is today, but who ever made the decision to locate WaGriz where it it today, and the people who decided against making it a multipurpose stadium, and the architects and engineers who designed and planned the stadium deserve a TON of credit for the success we've enjoyed all these years. I remember thinking 'wow, this is a real stadium. It actually looks different that the usual high-school pile of metal bleachers I was used to seeing.' And it kept growing from there, and the Cats still haven't come close to catching up.
I hate to think what would have happened if we got stuck with one of those concrete multi-purpose stadiums that were so popular in the mid/early 80's. Just imagine how different things would be if there was a track between the field and stands. ugh...

Cool, just in time for recruiting. Not sure how MSU got the number 4 spot but having Eastern ranked number 92 for stadiums in the FCS is about right
Well, the author of both reviews (UM's and MSU's, as well as EWU and ISU) is an avowed Bobcat Fan -- "BelgradeBobcat" on Wombat Nation. "They see things differently over there," but perhaps it was therefore fortuitous that UM made "No. 1."

To play devil's advocate, it's not that hard to see why MSU made the number 4 spot when most of the FCS can't even draw 10,000.

Agreed. The best thing that ever happened for MSU football facilities was Washington Grizzly Stadium. It gave them an unprecedented "goalpost." Unfortunately, the final result makes it look like hysteria was the motivating factor ...

My SEMO Redhawk's Houck stadium made 15. It is pretty cool. I would love to have a dorm room overlooking the end zone.

Exactly why UW-Seattle got rid of theirs as part of a $283 million "renovation".
