Now is a good time for Royce to make a statement

MSU was really fortunate to get the little Puerto Rican lady as President. She has really lit a fire in support of Bobcat Athletics and is a solid leader. I really feel for the Griz fans. There seems to be an Obama like attitiude by your leadership against success. Yes you had had a few bad apples like every other school in the country. But 98% or 99% of the student atheltes are great kids. I hope it works out for you guys. The next few months will tell the story!

OK. Seriously - this is hilarious. Not appropriate by any means, but hilarious.

and also extreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeemely true....

I did not mean it in a disparaging way about President Cruzado. She is little and she is from Puerto Rico. There were lots of fears when she got the job that she wouldn't support athletics. It has been just the opposite. She is a dynamo and an excellent leader. We are really fortunate to have her at MSU.

I've changed my thinking on this aspect of the case. I think that at the time of horrible "optics" to dismiss the case, even for a glaring lack of merit to the accuser's charges, still and all would have martyred someone and vilified someone else. Perhaps he was wise to let the case be decided by the public in the clear light of day.

I can see some of that reasoning in his statement and I think that's fine. This is a very controversial issue upon which people had become and still are polarized. Feelings are going to be running high until kickoff in September. It's just the nature of the beast.

If the UM "Honors" court were to carry through with it's decision to expel JJ, then there is no redemption for Engstrom, but if he can be conciliatory in the wake of the jury decision, then I think he has done right by it too.

More appropriate than hilarious. And our "leadership" includes the BOR. Thanks bs33.

So I guess we got his statement:

“I’m not really going to comment on that,” he said. “It went through the court of law. It was a very rigorous trial that was very difficult for everyone involved.

“None of us are :?: in any position to second-guess the decision. We’ll just go forth from here based on what the court decided.”

Reporter Fritz Neighbor can be reached at (406) 523-5247

Not only is RE a weasel, he's a grammatically-challenged weasel...even the Pope is smart enough to know that when you aren't up to the job it's time to abdicate.

As opposed to our President Royce "Eeyore" Engstrom

My sister is a professor at MSU and she was telling me last summer about the way Cruzado opens a meeting or event every time by saying something to the effect of "welcome to YOUR Montana State University." That sort of statement speaks volumes. The leadership at UM seems to take exactly the opposite approach; as though the university is "theirs."

The chickens are coming home to roost resulting from the tainted back room decision to hire Engstrom. Hopefully, after he is terminated, we will conduct a legtimate national search for a truly qualified replacement.

If some would care to read the second paragraph they would notice that the way it is worded means that none - not even the appeals court, is in any position to second-guess the decision made by the courts. Clear as it can be.

If he were to attack the accuser as so many on this board are willing to do, then he and the University would face a tremendous backlash. Or if he were to pointedly tell the appeals court what to do by singling them out it would look bad rather than the statement he issued which applies to all, including the supporters of the accuser.

I agree with Royce that we should all go "forth from here based on what the court decided.” Not based on our conceptions of who was telling the truth, but trust in the unanimous decision of the jury.

JJ should be treated as Jimmy Wilson was - very similar situations

Yeah, about as funny as UM winding up with a clueless ex-chemistry prof with a Napoleon complex.

Love the vision that MSU has, and am disturbed by the ability to smolder a good thing displayed by UM's person that is called the President. There is way too much similarity to the other guy at the top. It is no wonder why the DOJ paid a visit to Missoula. The culture can change in Missoula, but it is way larger than at just the U.
