Not A Good Team - Defensively

We got smoked by a team that played Alabama in the semi-finals last year. Savannah St. is gonna get smoked by the Griz next week. We didn't play great, but that has more to do with Udub being dominant and over-powering than with the Griz not being close in the game. Udub had to win big against an FCS school. We were supposed to lose. Get rolled! Pummeled! It was their home opener and they hadn't played great against Rutgers the week before. They're wanting to get back to where they were last year. They're gonna beat up on the rest of the PAC-12 and play USC for a chance to make it back to the final four. The Griz will grow from this game. To use this game as a barometer for their season is ridiculous, and not very realistic! The season will begin vs EWU, and the goals remain the same. We'll be competitive in the BSC and this loss will motivate the players even more.
Go Griz!

Of course they were gonna "win big." I thought the defense held up fairly well, that is until they realized they would be receiving exactly zero help from their Offense, which had to have been deflating. It slays me that there is a thread about the defense but none addressing the anemic offensive output. Unreal.

Yeah. Why can't this offense tackle on interception returns?? Where are the coaches on this?? (sarcasm)

If the DBs are going to cover so well, why can't they also chase down a Heisman trophy candidate??
(sarcasm)

If we are going to run up the middle with two different backs, for three out of four 4th downs against one of the biggest, toughest D-lines in the FBS why haven't we seen any fly sweeps? (sarcasm)

I tell you, the season is done if this team can't cover a 43 point spread. (sarcasm)

Please note the sarcasm in this post.

Data is inconclusive...

Against Valpo the D gave up 4 or 5 plays that were 60 percent of the yards they gave up
UW is one of the best teams on the FBS scene

We still won't know after the Savanaugh St game
And the way EWU is playing... we might not know after game 4.

Actually. the data are conclusive as f*ck. Not one point for the offense. Zero. Some of you are just living in la-la land...
Stitt could have kicked the FG, 4th and 5 at the UW 24 in 2Q, but is addicted to going for it on 4th. Because his offense is unstoppable. 21-10 could have held the inspiration for another few minutes.

I think the data is somewhat conclusive. 2 games in and an avg. of 450+ yards. One against supposed inferior and one against obvious superior comp. Not good either way...
Add "Not a Good Team - Special Teams" and another 159 yards of returns.

Hmmm...I wonder if Dante Pettis, the 4th nationally ranked and new Pac-12 punt return record setter had anything to do with this?

Even outmatched as the team was, I expected with all the hype surrounding the d line that they would be a bright spot on an otherwise miserable drubbing. They got manhandled. Physically dominated.
That's almost an understatement and they did not dominate Valparaiso either.

So the UM strategy is to kick to him with a punter capable of outkicking his coverage. Brilliant ST game plan.

Sure. Why not try it a few times? No better time than a meaningless game to get content for ST film study.

Now....if you were to ask the Utah coaches.

Just a little positivity for two groups that take a lot of heat on this board, I thought the OL played well and much better than alot of people probably expected and the DBs the same. A couple of somewhat longer passes to start but not what was probably expected given the recent history of getting beat deep.
