Northern Iowa Panthers Scouting Report

Gaeilge1, I agree with much of what you say (regarding a TE), especially against a team like UNI. I think we will see more H-back looks with Horner/Ralston/Bingham this week, which really is a glorified tight end, in my view. I actually think it can be more versatile at times. Horner lined up in that position a significant amount of time last year, especially the last half.

Forgot that Ralston was still on the team! I stand corrected. Thanks guys.

Having said that, we need to use him this week!

UNI and UM are on opposite sides of the spectrum for offence schemes. Doubt Stitt is going to go smash mouth, speed kills and that is what UM has. Brady passes up open running lanes on option and when he keeps it he runs like he is afraid of contact, maybe too aware of being hit. I'm afraid he is going to get worse injuries dive bombing to the turf on every run. WRs are green but athletic and they seem to willing to block, second level and secondary are areas to be exploited coach's son looks good at middle linebacker edges can be exploited. UNI secondary thin and inexperienced. Hope WR #7 knows playbook and can get playing time soon, most impressive WR in pregame warm up.

UUNI seemed susceptible to the long pass against UISU. I think Stitt will find out early, provided Brady is warmed up & ready.

TBH I think this is the 2nd most important game for Stitt since his start here. Obviously NDSU #1 was the biggest but now he's had a year to implement his system, do his recruiting and now we get to see what he can bring to the table against a top FCS team. I fully expect the Griz to lose but if we can keep it close I will be happy especially considering the state of the O-line

Normally, I only reserve Care Bear type stuff for Bobcatnation. However, given the extreme Cool-Aid drunkenness going on in here, this seems appropriate.

Unless he has changed his personality -- which is possible for someone that young -- I do not think Gus is that much "afraid of contact." But there does seem to be something there ... and I'm guessing he's under strict orders -- drilled into him, I would bet -- to get down before he takes any big hits. A guy as tall, lanky and loose-jointed as Brady can get hurt in so many ways. We don't need him to get injured and have to leave the game -- especially when/if he's in a "good Gus" flow.

18 yards before he goes down is not too bad for avoiding a hit.

Well, when each of his strides are 4 yards long...

scouting report question: What about Bailey? Game manager, TDs to INTs last year wasn't great, RB/QB that's durable. Anyone watch film on him?

Hello? Isn't every single QB in football under those orders? It's not like Gus is the only one doing hook-slides and dives to the turf...

Pretty sure every QB in the FCS or pros who isn't an option system is told to slide before they get hit

Of course, but let's not get out of context here. I was responding to a post that implied -- in my reading of it -- that Gus was somehow gun-shy about getting hit. As you point out, he is almost surely under orders to duck ... which is exactly what I said. Of course, it's way more obvious with Gus because he's so long and tall that it takes awhile to get all of that body on the ground.

BTW: The giraff video was SO funny, I had to share it with some friends and family. :)
