88 - 86 with a layup from Jefferson Mason with 10 seconds left.

Tyrone Bazy misses a shot at the buzzer for NAU.

If UNC would have played some token defense on Sir tonight, it would have been a blowout. Here's Sir's stat line:

Sir, Stephen FG 10-12 3PT 8-10 FT 2-2 REB 1 AST 1 F 2 PTS 30

In case you didn't know, Sir led the nation in 3 point percentage last season and was 5-5 his previous game. It isn't quite as easy as token defense. Have you ever seen him play? For a guy that likes to pass himself off as some hoops guru, you sure make some strange posts. Try doing some token research.

MGR knows plenty about Sir, and has seen him play more then anyone on this board I would venture to say. Defense or not though, thats one heckuva night shooting. 8-10 from the 3 is not to shabby.

I remember the last time I went 8-10 from the 3 land. It was 1999, and I was asleep if I remember it correctly.

I guess I should have said MGR. Well, I have seen Sir several times myself, and token defense is apparently what was used. His assessment made no sense at all. Seeing the guy play doesn't mean you know how to stop him, OBVIOUSLY.

I dont think a box and one is going to stop a night of shooting like that. Every dog has his day thats for sure. Fortunately for Sir, he has had 6-7 years of college to hone that shot.

Sir shot the ball from 3 very well as a freshman and has gotten better. Obvious understatement when you lead the nation 2 years in a row. I will believe he is gone when he isn't draining 3's again next year. You are right, he has been there forever.

Man has he. I think he has taken every possible extension for eligibility that there is out there. But, thats a testament to him that he keeps coming back.

I'm very stubborn on this guy.

He's not that good! He's an incredible shooter...and he's a tall shooter, yeah.

He can't create his own shot, he doesn't pass, he doesn't get rebounds. He's not that fast or quick and really not that athletic. He's a liability on defense and is actually quite lazy on the defensive end.

NAU sets screen after screen for this guy. It's a difficult defensive assignment - but c'mon, you can't give the guy 10 looks from 3pt range. He's a deadly shooter, and the easiest way to stop a shooter is to not let him get decent looks.

When a guy gets going like this in a game, everybody on the floor should know where he is at all times. I'd rather have two guys go after Sir, and give up a layup. They use Boykins on the second part of a double screen, so it's a difficult matchup on the switch. But I'd rather take my chances with a guard on Boykins in the post instead of giving Sir open looks.

I'd love to see NAU score 80 points when the defense keys on denying Sir the ball.

Also - Sir played at San Diego State before transferring to NAU. He got to play immediately because he was granted a medical redshirt (or greyshirt or something like that.)

He also got a 6th year (!?!) of eligibility this year from the NCAA for some reason. So yes, he has been around for a long time.

Flat out - I've never been impressed by this kid other than his shooting ability (which I will admit is absolutely incredible). He thinks only about himself on the court with a me-first shoot mentality. I don't have a lot of respect for players like that.

The description of Sir also applies to many great shooting guards Montana has produced, who also could not create a shot. Gary kane is about the last one I remember who could and Gray was not the same after that triple hernia. I still remember him lighting up UNLV in the NCAA's as a feshman.

Warhank and Lake needed a screen to get off a shot too.

Sir is a shooter, wish we had him this season. The Griz are getting good looks, just not knocking then down, yet.

That is much of the reason why many great Montana players don't excel at the D-I level. There are a ton of great shooters in Montana that could excel if given the green light and picks that Sir gets at NAU.
