Northern Arizona Regular Season Predictions

Time for an interesting one in NAU. There seem to be mixed thoughts on the Jacks. I personally think they have a chance to be pretty good. Let's dive in!

August 30 @ Arizona State - L. Tough to open up with a CFP team. Do I expect the Sun Devils to be as good as they were last year? No I do not, but I still don't see this going well for NAU. ASU rolls.

September 6 vs. Utah Tech - W. NAU beat up on them pretty good in St. George last year, therefore I believe they beat them up again at home this year.

September 13 @ Southern Utah - W. The T-Birds have a chance to be sneaky this year but I still think NAU has a better team then them. Close game but give me the Jacks on the road.

September 20 vs. Incarnate Word - L. This was an interesting game last year. NAU was playing them tough for a while, but ended up having 5 red zone TO's and lost 38-14. UIW appears to be in what I would refer to as a "reload" season this year. I need to see it to believe it so for now I'm taking the cards!

September 27 @ Portland State - W. Good conference game to open up with. Especially when you have to go on the road. No problem for NAU in this one.

October 4 vs. Montana State - L. Huge game for both teams, especially when they both have tough non-conference schedules. I know many of you last week predicted the Jacks would win this game. While I do think they have a decent chance and crazy things happen in the Sky Dome, I'm still gonna take the cats for now.

October 11 @ UC Davis - W. Tricky game on the road but I think Davis is in a re-building year that I believe NAU can win this on the road.

October 18 BYE

October 25 @ Idaho State - W. Some of you ISU homers aren't gonna like this one but I'm taking NAU on the road in this one. The Jacks are the better team IMO.

October 31 vs. Idaho - W. Friday night Football on ESPN2. Idaho is another team that appears to be in a re-build so I like NAU at home.

November 8 vs. Northern Colorado - W. Nice tune up game for the stretch run.

November 15 vs. Cal Poly - W. How did NAU luck out getting 3 straight home conference games? Jacks roll.

November 22 @ Weber State - W. Weber is a joke and NAU will be in fine form headed for the playoffs.

----------------------------------------
I got NAU going 9-3. A little generous as they'll more likely be 8-4 with a hiccup to either Davis or ISU but I definitely think 9-3 is attainable with a guy like Ty Pennington at QB. That's my prediction. Thoughts???

Someday the Jacks will live up to the hype e-griz heaps on them every off-season.
Maybe this year??? They do miss Sac and Montana this year.

The Bobcats always have a tough time in the NAU dome. I think the altitude they play at is a big factor. I have spent time hiking around Flagstaff and you can really feel it big time at 7,000 ft. This game will be a tough one for the Bobcats.

Always is for us too. Hell the last time we were there, that was one of the more embarrassing losses I've ever seen for the Griz. At least it ignited us after that lol.

The Bobcats just pulled it out two years ago on a long completion by Mellot to Willie Patterson with just seconds left. Set up a field goal to win the game.

This so much. NAU was solid last year, but got smoked in the playoffs, which seems to be the MO for upstart big sky teams. Sac State employed this strategy several years under Taylor. NAUU got hammered by abilene Christian last season.

I went with 8-4. I think 9-3 is max, but their QB1 needs to stay healthy. He's a really good player. He came back last year against Weber and was really good when I was up there watching. If I remember correctly, he had 4 TD's and almost 300 passing. 1 or 2 TD were on the ground, one like a 60 yarder.

Seems to be the best returner across the league. Should translate to better than 6-6. Looking at that schedule, it’s hard to argue with 9-3.

NAU lost to every team with a winning record they played last year and ducked the top 2 teams in the conference.

They were a favorable schedule away from going their yearly near .500 finish.

There's no reason to think they'll somehow be better next season when they play a harder schedule.
