No it won’t stop spinning. But it is FCS news, so I thought I’d share. I can’t imagine what they are going through. Just because they are prioritizing other things than a game, doesn’t mean they are not dealing with adversity. The Game is simply not a priority for them right now.

His roommate and a teammate were arrested in connection with it as well. I see the family is going to make a press statement this afternoon. Hate to guess but I'm wondering if a part of the coach resigning and season being cancelled has something to do with that.

Family press release; on 10/9 Caldwell was threatened by his roommate with a gun, the family alerts the coaching staff for rapid assistance and are assured they'll get it, but then nothing happens. 3 days later Caldwell is killed, allegedly, by his roommate. The family had been trying to get him better support and kept asking the coaching staff for help but it didn't come in time.

:?: I wonder how the committee will view a forfeit win from Northwestern State for the rest of the Southland teams that were still on their schedule. Especially Incarnate Word.

I assume it will be like a D2 win...credited into the win-loss record but maybe doesn't hold as much weight since it wasn't actually an earned win...

Good news for the teams around Incarnate Word fighting for seeding/playoff spot since NSU was a likely (but not guaranteed) win for Incarnate Word anyway.

Good find, Brint. Sickening series of events. Turn on the lights and watch the c*ckroaches run for cover. Deep grief sounds better than, 'we fired all the coaches, because they stood by and let a player gun down another player.' Assistants with no connection to this matter are screwed, players with next level hopes are screwed. The portals gonna be a busy place. I wonder if this is laying the groundwork for shutting down the football program.

Sort of felt this was coming.

This is why in a lot of states there are some sort of mandated reporter laws for educators and coaches for things like bullying, sexual abuse and such. Removes a lot of traditional hangups that keeps people in positions like Laird or myself from reporting these types of incidents. Not perfect by any means but it is why those laws exist. Protecting those in your care.

No one is perfect. Entirely possible that Laird under-estimated the threat and he's going to have to live with that for the rest of his life. On the other hand, if you look at the totality of recent events inside college athletics, it is potentially yet another institutional failure to do the right thing. Obviously this is just speculation but regardless this is an absolutely awful situation for a family to have to deal with. An absolute tragedy.

Other than a win in the record, how much would a win over a winless team get you? UM's D2 win was over a good team. Ferris is averaging 40 points per game. UM gave them 10.

That is an interesting thought that, now that you say it, sounds logical. Horrible all around.

It's all making sense now. Of course the coach had to resign. You don't promise parents that you're going to help their kid and then do nothing which leads to the kid's death. That's pretty negligent.

Just a horrible situation all the way around.

Huh, how is it cold to bring up some football relation to this story especially just pointing out something that could directly affect our fanbase? It's obvious it's a sad/tragic story without me repeating what others had already stated. I didn't criticize or judge anyone or their actions involved in the story. I understand the coach resigning and the team halting the season and agree if I was in their shoes, I would have similar decisions.

Here's some info on my question. Looks like NCAA treats cancellations one way, and some conferences another way. I think this quote was related to the Southern Conference. I didn't save the link, and don't recall where I cut this quote from.

"While some opponents gain a forfeit win in the conference race, the NCAA considers each canceled game to be a no contest."
