Thanks Hammer. I'm also in 130 for the last 5 years and for the first time, two games in a row I have been asked to be quiet, sorry won't happen. It is not just the older people, I am one, We ran off the young kids in front of us. I look at the folks with North End Zone Crazy shirt that never opened their mouths or got off their arses, Nice shirt. There has been a big turn over in tickets. I guess I will just have to yell for 10 people now bring back noise makers and my old Cow Bell.

I finally got season tix in sec 233 of the nez and it's been pretty loud and nobody told me to sit. Every time I stood up to yell, everyone behind me did the same. Guess your section is aging or something???

I am sorry to hear about the rest of the North Endzone but don't blame section 132 - at least not the top 1/2. That's where my wife and I have camped out for several years and it is always loud up there in support of the D and we have never been asked to sit down. Seriously, it is generally so loud around us in D support that I didn't even realize that the rest of the Zone was a problem. Just sayin', don't blame our section.

Hell, looked like everyone was outside drinking beer until the game ended after half time. Pretty much a joke if you ask me. If you can't make it to the start of the 3rd quarter stay home.
The North End Zone isn't dead but its not what it once was. At the Liberty game I was told to sit, this time around I just ignored the idiot. Someone else said there has been a huge turn over in the seats and I agree that is a huge part of the problem. I've been in 130 since they poured the concrete. The seats to my right used to be held by a young couple from Billings, they drove over and back on game day. They are gone. The seats to my right were held by a retired couple from Fairfield, they made a weekend of game day. They are gone. Same with the seats behind, a family from here in town. They are gone. Three rows up and to my right there used to be a large and noisy contingent from Condon, I've run into those folks at Liquid Louies and they say its the high price of tickets, now there is just two guys left. Some of the departures were from the increase in ticket prices, most of them I have no idea.
I do know that a lot of the seats around me are no longer season ticket holders, they are newbies in for one game and one game only and either they have no idea what is expected of them to be in the NEZ or they are just along for the party. There are a couple of people that dont have any idea whats up, my fav is the guy who tries to get the crowd rolling at the start of a tv timeout. Dude needs to learn how long tv time outs last and then time it, its a learned art form that many of us in the NEZ have perfected over the years. Others have whined about the infants, at least one parent has enough sense to put shooters ear muffs on the kid. I agree with the others about the poor timing of the announcing by Peter C and the poor use of the Griz Vision, its definitely not working. Thats the money talking and that wont change, ever.
My take is until we get more season ticket holders back in the NEZ, its not going to be what it was. As for people tailgating and not being in their seats to start the half, its been that way for years and there hasn't been any bitching until now. I used to time my arrival to see the Silvertips and then hit the 13:00 minute mark at the half. I want a couple of adult beverages to get my voice back for the second half and thats what I'm going to continue to do. One last thing, Jerome has always, always had his team prepared for the noise from the NEZ and this was no different.

Take it from someone who knows about crowd apathy. Fall 2000...man it was hard to be a cat fan. Mid 2000's, we added some wins to the equation but our crowd management services were like the Gestapo. Only in the past two years has MSU games evolved into a competitive environment. Of course we are nowhere near where you guys are, but the strides have been noticeable.
I've seen it as a high school coach.
Rule #1: Success breeds success. It was pointed out on this board that two years ago (remember the year when the Cats beat the Griz in Misoula) the Griz had a "bad" season. Didn't you finish 8-3 that year? (It might have been 7-4, but I don't want to disrespect). Well, an 8-3 year (or a 7-4 year even) would have been like a gift from Heaven in 2000 (and was the norm in the mid 2000's). There was only one place to go....up.
The Cat fans are riding a building wave right now. One day they too might find themselves "expecting" a 10-1 season or a 9-2 season every year. Anything less than a deep playoff run will spell disaster for their excitement.
How many home games have you lost in the past 15 years? I can count them on my hands right? When the Griz aren't pummeling somebody, the fans may lose interest. See rule #2
Rule #2: Fans are stupid. The guys on this board (and on Bobcat Nation) are fans of the game. Some may be more rabid for our home teams than others (and some--yes 2506, this means you) love to stir shit up for no good reason. But most fans on this board love...LOVE this game and know a few things about it. This is not the majority of either fan base. How many times (talkin to both schools here) have you had a conversation with a coworker about how crappy your team is? Then you ask them, "Well what about Dan Moore, or, what about Tanner Bleskin?" The look at you like you have lobsters crawling out of your ears right? Stupid, stupid fans. They aren't going to sit through a loss. They are going to think about excuses they can give their coworkers by cherry picking the stats off the radio on their ride home.
Rule #3 When you run with the wolves you gotta piss with the pack. It's so much fun when your favorite team is winning. You're running with the wolves. When the pack is no longer running, well, you gotta stop too. This crappy adage my pappy told me when I went off to school has served me well because I know that at some point, the pack needs to stop running. It's not forever, it might be for only a second, but the true fan will not be put off his course because others have lost faith. Take the lumps this week, get back in the saddle and be the fan base you have always been. I know the readers of this will. F- those others. They pay for the team's shoulderpads and helmets, they cheer when their told...they serve a purpose. They are not what makes WAgriz an awesome place to catch a game.
Keep it in perspective griz nation. Don't lose faith. When I come down to Missoula in november, if that place isn't rockin, IMA be pissed. I'll be there with my blue and gold, and I'll bring everything I can, I, all football fans, want you to as well, because that, football fans, is what this game is all about.

The Cats are now where the Griz were when the original NEZ was added. It was/is a program on the rise with fans/students/faculty going from I hope we have a winning season to I hope we make the playoffs to we will make the playoffs, now lets get some playoff wins. Montana's progression is in a more mature stage and the prices are not helping. $55 for Homecoming is tough for a lot of people who have to pay $150 or more roundtrip for gas and another $120 for a motel room. If you stay overnight in Missoula a Griz weekend now costs you $500 and up. Thats a chunk of cash so you see some diehards not going because of personal economics.
I have been lucky enought to attend an SEC game (not Tennessee) and those people love their football 1st and tailgating 2nd....which is now opposite for a chunk of Griz fans....

Putter is right about ticket prices. The price has pushed out a lot of the younger, more energetic fans. $55 for a homecoming ticket is ridiculous and it shows by the lack of a sell out.

I bought two more season tickets in the NEZ this season so I could bring the experience to others that have never been. Sometimes I bring grandchildren so I am doing my part to re-generate the tradition. Other times I bring friends or relatives that have never had the experience. I am bring two BOBCAT neicess to the Griz/Cat game. They begged me for the tickets so they could experience the atmosphere at WAGriz.
I am in section 123 and we always stand at the appropriate times. We are all ages, some season ticket holds, some not. I did notice that the section below us and to the east seldom stood up. I did find that odd.
It is kind of sad that fans can't get back into the game in time to see the 3 Qtr kickoff but it is what it is. Their choice to miss some of the most exciting plays of the game.
Regarding yelling and cheering; I have a difficult time keeping the energy going when the team is disintigrating before my eyes. I tend to get quiet because if I open my mouth the words will not be proper for some ears. The place is usually hopping, loud and joyful when the team is rolling. It tends to get quieter when you have five turnovers and the "D" is just trying to hold on. I think it is human nature.

As weird as it is to say, I think the 2009 playoffs between the SDSU and the App St. games had something to do with where the atmosphere, or lack thereof, is today. I was at both games and I have never witnessed a stadium that was like that for two games. Especially App St. The cold, the snow, the hype, the intensity, ESPN, trip to the chipper, new stadium addition, night game, etc., etc., etc. That game was about the football, and it showed.
That became the new expectation for a lot of people. They saw the game of football in its truest form and at its absolute best. From that point forward and without all those other factors, the average fan is just sort of let down once they've seen what it CAN be like. Compare 9/22/12. It was warm, smokey, just a regular conference game against a team they normally beat, day game, etc. To the average fan, it just comes across as, well, blah. The party becomes more important at that point.
The Northern Iowa game last year was a good example of this. It was getting a glimpse back to what 2009 was and the fans reacted well.
