Thursday - The Missoulian has a small box which says that "The Montana Grizzslies didn't announce the addition any men's basketball recruits on Wednesday, the first day of the NCAA spring signing period. However, Coach Larry Krystkowiak's Big Sky tournament champions could sign at leqst one player between now and the start of the 2005-06 school year.

Montana State also didn't announce any recruits on Wednesday but expects to make a signing announcement on Thursday."

That's because both programs are in disarray because they overlooked McGillis so friggin bad. :drinking:

Monthoops and others can complain about the lack of a scholarship for McGillis, but where does he fit in the scheme of things. The Griz have already have Kyle Sharp 6-7, Ryan Staudacher 6-3, and Austin Swift 6-5 coming into the program. They are working hard to sign a player or two that can play the PF and/or C position. Right now, McGillis does not fit into that plan and the Griz can not afford to have another player in the mold of McGillis. This in no way detracts from what McGillis can do, but he emerged too late, after others that can play the same position, were already signed. As for Kyrsco cleaning house, I attribute it to more of getting the guys he wants to get the program off to a flying start and not something that will become a common occurance. Many coaches have had player turnover when they first get hired at a program.

Where does a 6'6" kid with the biggest upside in the world, that shoots 50% from the 3, that is from MISSOULA, fit into the University of Montana's scheme of things? Hmmmmm...

Monthoops, with a limited number of schollies and the kids already signed, McGillis does not fit into the schollie picture. The Griz need 1 or 2 PF/C types and that McGillis is not. They would love for him to walk on and possibly get a schollie in year two, which from what I have seen is just as good an offer as Washington and the other 1-A offers. Would you like Krysco to tell one of the high school kids coming next year that they no longer have an offer because they would like to offer it to someone else? Well, I do not see that happening at all. Also, there is nothing that indicates that McGillis has a bigger upside than any of the incoming kids, and gripe about the local kid, but we saw this a couple years ago with Henkel to, and well, we all saw how that ended up. And now with the signing of Van Vliet, it shows that right now it is about finding players that fit the positions needed, and no one right now is going to say that the Griz should have used this schollie on McGillis instead of Van Vliet.

I guess this topic has been hashed and re-hashed. Only time will tell to see if anyone made any mistakes or if anyone was over or underrated. McGillis is better than Henkel.

monthoops, I am in no way saying that McGillis should not get a schollie, or that he is not talented. He just has the numbers working against him right now, and his best option is probably when some school loses a guy that they thought they were going to sign and look elsewhere, at the guys that fell through the cracks. The Griz right now are not in that boat as they have 4 guys signed now, and what I believe to be one more schollie that I am pretty sure will go to a big. McGillis may very well be the great college player that the Griz missed out on, but recruiting as we all know is far from an exact science.
