No Game Day

Part of me wants to believe we were Plan B in the event Michigan or OSU shit the bed this week.

But a large part of me also believes we were never in serious contention, but Gameday wanted all the free social media marketing they knew we’d bust our asses to provide.

It sucks being a small fry.

I believe we were on some sort of list of possibilities and in just the right set of circumstances it could happened, but in the final analysis the logistical challenges were too much. They would have had to move the set and equipment from Mississippi (they were in Oxford this week correct?) to Missoula and then back to the midwest or south the next week. With not insignificant weather related transport risk. Not to mention the cost of moving some of the talent back to back to (presumably) Columbus in time for the prime time game via private jet. Somebody put pencil to paper, took a deep breath and said 'no thanks'. And no question they loved the social media frenzy.

Dammit. Now I have to like Desmond Howard. :)

Well if Desmond is being honest, he’d probably rather be anywhere then Columbus. My bet is ESPN will do Montana a “solid” next year and right there wrong by bringing Gameday to the brawl😡.

Not sure that logistics is that big a deal for them ... they've been doing it for a long time.

Week 7 this year: Gameday in Athens, Georgia. (Second time in three weeks). Kentucky at Georgia. FWIW: The airport nearest to Athens has no commercial service. Atlanta is about an hour and a half away.

Week 8: Pasadena, California for Oregon at UCLA. In and out thru Greater Los Angeles traffic (ouch!).

Week 9: East Lansing, Michigan for Michigan at Michigan State.

Halfway across the country and back ... just like that. And, from what I read, the trip to East Lansing was a late decision when their top candidate fell through after a bad loss by a supposed contender.

Right now, it seems highly unlikely that they could resist going to a venue where two top-10 contenders were facing off.

If fact – to be brutally honest and realistic – I do not see them ever coming to the Brawl. At this time of the season, ESPN will always be looking to promote the FBS "playoff." It's pretty unlikely that they wouldn't be able to find a matchup between contenders.

Fully agree Ida - Week 12 isn’t nearly or logistically possible for Gameday to visit as it is in Weeks 1-8. Who knows, maybe ESPN will throw us a bone next year earlier in the season and we avoid the hotel room problem and potential bad weather.

…give herbstriet one job or the other…
…the double dipping dip siht…
…eliminate that problem…

So they’ll go to the settling pond instead? THAT would be a mistake.

Reno H. Sales "Stadium" doesn't doesn't do well as a broadcast location.

I imagine that all the gaps in Reno H. Sales would be handy when running large cables for cameras and microphones. Gaping Hole Stadium might have an advantage.

Hence my angry face.

There is no reason for gameday to come to Missoula. Fans need to face the fact that Montana has not been a relevant team since the early 2000s. The only way ESPN comes to Missoula is if the Griz somehow win 3 or 4 National championships and that isnt gonna happen any time soon.

Rhetoric aside this is just another example of the commercialism of college sports. ESPN calls themselves the voice of college athletics but the reality is they are only interested in the big $$$$ and not into promoting true and honest athletic performance whether it be small time college football or demonstrating the how our collegiate athletes strive to be the best they can be without the notoriety associated with national exposure.
ESPN, you are a disgrace to all amateur athletics and I for one hope you will someday recognize that there is more to college sports than dollars. Do it for the love of the game.

I think you may be on to something. Regardless of the longevity of the Brawl, you’ve got Montana playing a team that hasn’t been relevant on a national stage since 1984…..it’s no wonder ESPN didn’t come. Maybe they’ll come to Missoula for the next UM EWU game. At least that would be a matchup of 2 teams who’ve played for and won titles this century.

ESPN still feeling the burn from when they were positioned to record MSU’s reaction to a #1 seed in the playoffs and we had the audacity to busroll them the day before, ruining all of ESPN’s plans….they’ve never forgiven us.

…we don’t need no stinking game day…
…we got the brawl..we got our rival…
…all they got is their same old siht…
…fcuk ohio/michigan..tired of it…

… …
