NIT

The NIT just released their new qualifications. Starting this year any regular season conference champion who does not make the Big Dance automatically qualifies for the 40 team NIT field. Also a team no longer has to have a .500 record to be invited to the field. So I am guessing we will see a bunch of small conference schools, perhaps NAU & then teams like a 13-17 Notre Dame or Wake Forest.

So 1 more win for the Jacks & they will automatically qualify for this tourney.

I like that its the season conference champ and not a tourney champ is the qualifier. Makes the season worth a little more.

I like the conference title winner getting to play post season as well. That's a nice touch. I still hope they stick with the unwritten role of 20 wins too. Any team that can compile that many victories deserves some post season play.

I imagine that they'll take the non-NCAA conference title winners first, then the big-name big draw teams, then lastly the best remaining RPI teams to fill out the 40 teams. Hopefully if Montana can stay in the 80's or get into the 70's they get some consideration (if they don't win the BSC).

I hate the fact the NCAA now owns the NIT as well. It makes me wonder if were they are headed is going to screw the small school again, like the BCS in football.

I'm thinking the Big Sky will send 1 team to the NCAA (of course) and 1 team to the NITs, based upon current preformances and records.

My hope (again, of course) UM goes to the NCAA's and NAU goes to the NIT.

Although in the back of my mind I think the Griz could do some heavy damage in the NITs as well.

If the Griz make the NIT, I believe they could win at least one, maybe two games, depending on the matchups. That would be kind of fun to see. I know the NIT doesn't have the same kind of star appeal, but I would like to see how we match up against teams we don't normally play.
