In the Missoulian today, Tinkle says he is redshirting Nick. That means he's a keeper. I predict Mr. Emerson will recieve a scholarship before next season. He looks to me to be a good one.

While I think Emerson is a great pick up for the Griz and I do not know if he will be offered a scholarship for next year or not, redshirting him does not mean a scholarship is on the way either. 80-90% of all walk-on's are redshirted their true freshman year, whether they are keepers or not. Coaches are not going to play players in less they can contribute, and redshirting allows walk-on to gauge their ability level at D-1 and then move on to D-2, NAIA, or Jc with-out loosing a year of eligibility.

Again I mean no disrespect to Mr. Emerson, but I would not read too much into redshirting of walk-ons as a sign a scholarship is on its way. Look to what else the coach has to say.

With respect to you, as one who provides volumes of information to this board, I have been watching Nick quite a bit in practice and he is definately outplaying two schollarship players at the 2 and 3. Oh, And I havn't forgotten your miss-call on Freddy Owens going to Wisconsin last year, which set you back a bit in the credibility department.

I agree Emerson is a very good player, but I would read in to the positive thing Tinkle has been saying since this fall as an indicator of his possible success with the Griz rather than is he or isn't he going to redshirt. My point went beyond Emerson and more to the theory that redshirting means a walk-on "is a keeper". Listen to Tinkle is my point and do not read into who gets redshirted or not. as some kind of grand scheme.

Sorry for my previous rant, Mslacat. But I'm basing my opinion on more than just the redshirting deal, I know the coaches are high on him. After watching us struggle from the field last night, we may need him sooner than later. He has a stroke. Wood continues to throw up bricks. I had high hopes for Weisner to bring us shooting help and I know him practice time has been limited this year, but he shot poorly in the scrimmage and didn't get off the bench last night.

I think that the early signing period starts this coming week. We will probably know soon enough if they are going to keep him around.
