I have nothing to do with the "Missoulian Player of the Game." That's just a sponsored thing that happens to have the Missoulian's name on it. I don't know who chooses the player of the game, but it's not me. I never choose one. I pick one per unit: offense, defense, special teams. I don't remember who sponsored the Player of the Game last year, but it wasn't the Missoulian. But the timing of those announcements is always the same... early to middle of the fourth quarter.
Night games are never fun from a newspaper reporter's perspective. I had 10 minutes to write my story. I had to file before either team made it to the press conference room. I had something prewritten at halftime, but I had to trash that because, well, the second half changed the storyline. I did what I could. From here on out, I'll have at least two full stories (sometimes three), with my report card, play-by-play, players of the game, and stats in the paper on Sundays. That analysis and such will take up two-four pages.

And I find it disturbing that you're disturbed about kids getting trophies. The idea is that kids, whether playing or not deserve recognition. After all, they do participate in practices that help the kids who do play and win. When a team wins a Super Bowl, do not all the players (participants) get rings whether they played in the game or not?Jaymerz said:... I’m a throwback fan, a season ticket holder, who screams on defensive for 4 quarters, and finds it disturbing that kids are taught today that participation should earn a trophy, regardless of outcome. As I think about it, it’s more of a retrospective on Griz Nation, which has gotten soft and, in some ways, apathetic. I am a graduate of UM, and briefly, someone who suited up in a Griz uniform (don’t worry, I was a walk-on and an irrelevant blip on the Griz sports map). Perhaps it stems from a decade of “good but not great” football, or all the ethical controversy surrounding Griz football that was seized on by the media over recent years, and opportunistic swipes in books like the one written by Krakauer (Sp?). Too many Griz faithful seem to not expect much, so they don’t get much. Perhaps it’s a deserved outcome of a program that was arguably plagued by problems recently, but I guess I’d love to see a collaborative effort by Griz Nation to help make the Griz great again, which is probably at the core of my original post. I agree completely. Hey Amy, back in the day there was a journalist named Ward Just, any relation?
