Next years schedule

So probably two home games get wedged in, a D-2 school and a mid-major FCS, maybe a conference team from the Big Sky in one of those goofy games that don't count to the conference record.

It's a tough schedule, but it's ideal for the team. EWU booked a very tough 2013 schedule and it's worked out well for them. People in the past have whined about the OOC booking being too light. Well, here you go, this is a challenging schedule and it'll mold the team well next year.

I'd like to see what Coastal Carolina has going on during our open dates...
I would love nothing more than to get a grudge match against them... That was a good team

With this coaching staff there is absolutely NO CHANCE that we make the playoffs next year. Put in a Division III school and we will never get 7 FCS wins. We were really lucky this year, we looked like crap for about 4 games that we ended up winning. Delaney is NOT a head coach, give him his 75% of $160,000 and let him enjoy the pasture. He didn't step forward and do a great thing. He enhanced his retirement by probably 100% and was RE's choice. He never would have gotten the job if he had to apply and compete for it.
If you're convinced they have no chance, why bother showing up then> Guess we just forfeit the whole season then.
So you only go to the games if the Griz are winning...

We better find FCS opponents to fill every remaining spot on our schedule, because we are going to need to pile up D1 wins...

The toughest overall, good to have our offensive skill package back

Not concerned too much with the o line, think we will be okay....think we can put up the points

D secondary will be better, big need to bolster backers...d line will be stout

Don't think we can make do without a reliable kick game, we will need someone to step up

I say optimistically a 9-3 season and playoff bid.....

Great post and 100% right. We didn't play anyone good until EWU and we know how that went. A challenging schedule will prepare us for the play-offs. We catch EWU late in the year too. That will be a great game, though they will be tough to beat.

Hmmm. I understand how a tough schedule can help you prepare for the playoffs... But it can also keep you out of them.

Nope, 9/13 is South Dakota and will be a night game. 9/20 will be a DII unless Idaho State can revamp its schedule a bit. Montana wants to play the Bengals in a non-conference game rather than a DII. If it's a DII, it will likely be Western Oregon.

It has worked for EWU and they don't have near the resources or team that we do.

Could we have scheduled any tougher?

8/30/14 @Wyoming
9/6/14 @NDSU
9/13/14 Open
9/20/14 Open
9/27/14 Northern Colorado
10/4/14 @North Dakota
10/11/14 Open
10/18/14 UC Davis
10/25/14 @ Cal Poly
11/1/14 Sac. State
11/8/14 @ Eastern Wash
11/15/14 @ Southern Utah
11/22/14 Montana State

9/20/14 -- I'll make my pitch again for an Ivy League game. Cal Poly played Yale this season so why not? So how about Harvard or Yale? Even better make it a night game!

It's my understanding that the date of the NDSU game is not yet set and is under negotiation. It could be any of the weeks 9/6 to 9/20. On the positive side, both Wyoming and NDSU will have new HCs and the latter loses a very heavy senior population. We should have a decent shot at both. Since the other OOC games need to be home games, don't get your hopes up regarding quality.

We don't have near the team that you do? Please elaborate :coffee:

Playing EWU away who hate us and will give their all to win. Then another away game to SUU who hate us and will give their all to win. Then back home to finish off with MSU who hate us and will be looking for revenge. Whoa going to be hard to get thru those three games without a lose.

It worked this year, but EWU's schedules are very risky, and most of our difficult scheduling comes from the financial side of things anyways. Had we not beaten a Pac 12 team on the road this year, we would not have had the playoff positioning that we did. There is a fine line with playing a tough schedule to prepare you for the playoffs and a tough schedule that will keep you out of the playoffs.

When you looked at this year's schedule BEFORE the season started did you think we weren't playing "anyone good"? Hell, UND BEAT us last year, as did ASU. Many looked at those two as potential losses. We didn't know (until much later) that they were below mediocre this year...
