Next Up at home vs. San Francisco 12/4

82-50. Good guys win.

Good points: good team play second half. Good performances. Missed Mick's play-by-play.

Downside: didn't play the bench. Where was DeJong? Noticed that several were not suited up. What's up with that?

Was wondering the same thing....with that kind of blow out, you would think you'd give the guys who make an effort in practice a chance to get a little time in the game.... Is he injured, or in the dog house?

Wow, love to see the Griz put them away with authority. Hopefully gets them on track a little going into the game against the Zags...

Didnt see the game. Had to work. sounds like this is a little of what we have been expecting and hoping for!?

All except Gfeller making shots. If he had made some it could have been a 40 point beating. Much improved this game.

Nice to see Boehning doing some things, showing a little offense, getting some rebounds. Maybe the kid will be a player. Sure help to have another big guy backing up Bruenig, Kryslovic & Lopez

Yeah I saw Gfeller struggled again. He needs a couple in a row to fall so he can break this slump. I think he will. Hopefully it's soon

Everyone that suited up played 10+ minutes. So we got a lot of time for the bench players.

The only one who wasn't suited up that usually is suited up was DeJong. Not sure why he didn't suit up. The other players are all redshirting or not eligible this year (Rorie due to transfer rules).

So really we used the bench a ton this game. The bench players did a lot of good things out there in their minutes too. Very good to see!

Boehning had 14 minutes, Moorehead 19 minutes, Bradshaw 15 minutes an Lopez 11. Lopez would have had more but was in foul trouble.

Another good sign!

I was at the game & got there early. Mario Dunn, in street clothing but with NO cast on his left arm...

He was feeding several other players passes from the sideline, dribbling with both hands, catching with both hands. Still appears to be favoring the left hand a bit, but otherwise looked great.

UM up only 4 at the half. Came out strong in 2d half and blew out USF. SF shot horribly (31%). UM ended up with an over 50% shooting night, in large part because of scoring in the paint. In the 2d half, SF could not stop Breunig. Made all 6 of his shots. UM had 9 turnovers in the first half, and zero in the 2d half. I couldn't tell is UM was having a great 2d half, or SF was just bad. Looking at SF's schedule so far, they don't seem to be bad. Perhaps just a bad night, combined with a very good 2d half by UM.

Both teams seemed to defend fairly well in the early going. UM's defense on the perimeter, including switches looked very good and improved.

Breunig got an early bucket, and then SF worked hard to cut him off. He came alive in 2d half. Didn't get a foul until about 5 to go. Was much more careful to avoid dumb fouls. Both guards, Wright and Oguine, played very well. Wright's best game of season (20 and 7 assists). Krsolvich was very tough on the boards (11) and defense, and got some buckets. Very nice game by him. Lopez had a nice game in all aspects. Bradshaw had 2 nice 3's off the bench, and was solid. The big Glendive kid, Boehning, looked good, and has more potential than I had realized. He could contribute off the bench this year. Gfeller didn't score. Don't know what's wrong with his shooting. Moorehead hits a couple 3's and played fine.

Refs weren't a problem, but man did they miss a bunch of travels on SF in the 2d half. The same tall dark-haired guy missed 4 calls, 3 of which were blatant. Continuing calls of ticky tacky fouls, but at least these guys didn't ruin the game by calling 15 needless fouls. Sat with Stephen Pfahler and Alyssia Smith. He still has his fitness gym and business (out by airport) and she is doing basketball training at the gym (and has a full half court). Lots of younger kids stopped by to say hi to them. Qvale, who plays in Germany, is currently in Spain playing in the EuroCup. Looks like he had 17 and 8 bounds in his last game. Having a good season in Oldenburg.

I had to watch the game on demand at gogriz.com. Anyway, Wright and Oguine looked to be much more comfortable and confident again. They looked like they did in the scrimmages. They need to keep that against Gonzaga and Kansas as well. Breunig's dunks were rather impressive. Defensive continuity and ball movement was much better. As for Boehning, he is still pretty raw due to inexperience at this level. However, he does have the body and strength to be a presence defending the post and rebounding. He has a great base defending the post and is hard to move. In time that size and strength will benefit in the post on offense. The GRIZ will need him to play significant minutes against Kansas and Gonzaga.

Gfeller forced a 3 terribly which is so unlike him, but his other shots were normal 3 attempts for him. He looked to be squaring up better with less leaning and fading. Despite not hitting his shots, he looks about to break out soon. Moorehead though, showed some good versatility and appears to be more of a penetrating threat than Gfeller.

Overall, I was really impressed with the GRIZ this game. They sure made USF look bad. GO GRIZ!!!!
