Next up 2/4 @ Sac State

Sac hits the first...and the 2nd... back down by 4.

Breunig with a bucket and a foul on the offensive putback.

Shooting 1... misses on purpose... sac rebounds though and sac fouled :(
Why in the world with 4 seconds to go would we deliberately miss the free throw?
A make gets the game to a 1 point deficit and then go for the steal or foul. Even if they make two free throws, we can still get a chance at a three for the tie.
What a dissapointing 2nd half.
Go Griz!

OW, that loss hurts. With that kind of lead and our talent, we should never lose a game like that one. Hugely disappointing loss. I hope DeCuire does not hold back in post game. This is the 1st game in quite awhile where the guards struggled as a unit.
RIGHT ON!

Disappointing on a lot of levels, but it was nice to see DeJong get some minutes and do a lot of good things. We need his size, skills inside.

Absolutely.

You can look at several things, but:
• the missed freethrows from normally reliable shooters
• a blown inbounds play
• loss of composure in a rebounding scramble that cost the Griz 4 points
• and two technical fouls (one on the coach) right in the middle of it all...
Boy, that's a huge pendulum swing after being up by 5 with just under three minutes left to play.

The best way to look at this one is that it HAS to be a game to learn from. We'll see soon enough.

He had 15 season points coming in, left with 25. His defense shows up better than his offense, and his offense was very good tonight. He has a better hook under the basket than Krslovic. Travis did what he did against the Cats, protected Breunig against foul trouble by putting in DeJong in the first half. Tonight, DeJong really played those minutes well, at 15 minutes, more than twice as long as he has been played so far this season (season average, 4.3 minutes per game). He seems to be slowly gaining Travis's confidence.

Gavin produced 0.7 points per minute of play, compared to 0.8 points for Martin, and 0.6 points for Gfeller. (0.3 points per minute for Oguine and 0.2 points per minute for Wright). Gavin was over twice as productive as Oguine and three times as productive as Wright.

Gavin hit 71% FG percentage (5/7), compared to 58% for Martin (7/12) and 67% for GFeller (6/9), 20% for Oguine (2/10), and 30% for Walter Wright (3/10). The guards shooting really failed tonight. What was impressive was Gavin's defense, a couple of times he didn't just "defend" he really batted the ball away, very strong.

Not enough play time to say "he's got it," but tonight at least, "he had it."

Nice game tonite....both teams played their hearts out....we came out in the second half with nothing to lose, so we got real aggressive for the first time I can remember and it worked....we initiated our offense as quickly as we could to not allow your defense to get set....questionable calls went both ways....you guys got the calls in the first half and we seemed to get them in the second half....

Yeah I did like some of the things Dejong did. He looks fairly fluid and agile. Needs to get bigger and stronger.

Have you stood next to DeJong? He is a legit 6'8". He is taller than the 6'6" he's listed at. He is around 220 lbs now. I feel, physically he is fine. He just needs to learn the game and adjust to the competition. He surely is coming around nicely. I wish I knew what is up with Boehning? I wonder if he is struggling in the class room?

Big Dutch kid. He has longer arms and bigger hands than Boehning. He might have the biggest "wingspan" of anyone on the team.

In basketball coach speak "He is long". DeJong is taller than 6'6". He is definitely a sleeper.

He sure looked good in the first half. He didn't play a whole lot in the 2nd half though which I thought was too bad considering he was such a good inside threat for the Griz in the first half. I wonder if he could have sparked our offense a bit when we were struggling to get anything going. He had a real nice hook shot over Stuteville in the first half.

As for Boehning, I hope someone will post what's going on with him. He missed the Cat game and now doesn't appear to be on this road trip either. Nothing has been mentioned in the pre-game shows (at least not that I've heard) or the post game shows. Is he sick? Injured? I wouldn't think it'd be grades at this time of year, but who knows.

Well, that was a bad collapse. We saw some good things but the D faltered in the second half. On to the next!

...True...Griz defense did Tank...However they should have still won the game...Loosing their composure...getting two Technicals cost them the game..

Cool heads didn't prevail...in crunch time.

Hopefully this game was a learning lesson for Travis and the Team.

GO GRIZ!

In my opinion Boehning is not Big Sky material. I saw him play in high school and I just don't think he is tough or skilled enough. I hope I am wrong.

First, I think DeCuires technical was warranted. He earned it, but he had one heck of a point. It was over the back and the non-call was clearly to the advantage to the offense. Even if it wasn't an elbow to the head.

I would have been frustrated, as noted even by the Sac State announcers, the sharp difference between the way the last 10 minutes of the first half was officiated, and how the first 10 minutes of the second was. Katz was relentless in those first ten minutes, you could hear him badgering the officials. That isn't an excuse in anyway.

Lopez T was legit as well. I didn't care for how it was handled from an officiating standpoint. He was drug to the floor from behind. That was escalated by the foul in the first place and the rapid movement by the sac state guy to jump in. Can't defend Jack, cause that went from being a free throw on our end, to a 2 for 2 trade and Lopez was out of the game.

Yeah, major implosion. You gotta learn from these. Has been an Achilles heal for Travis's team since he showed up. They struggle closing out games. Don't know what the issue is, but I am really surprised it hasn't got us more in the past (obviously excluding the EWU title game last year).

Lost to a 2-6 team conference team. I hope Travis chewed their asses as that was way below this teams ability. You have to put bad teams away

What I said has nothing to do with his height or frame. I feel he needs to put on some muscle. Weight has nothing to do with it. It was the make-up of the weight. You may feel physically he is fine I think he needs to put on some muscle. In any case I thought he looked pretty good last night and showed some potential.

He left the notion that he did during his post-game interview with Mick.
