Alright I got a good one! Oregon State OC Brian Lindgren. He’s been the OC at OSU since 2018 and was the OC at Colorado for the previous 5 seasons and 1 season as OC at SJSU. Before that he spent 6 seasons at NAU with the last 3 coming at OC. He played QB at Idaho in the early 2000’s and he’s from Washington. Jonathan Smith has ties to UM and if Lindgren wants his first shot at being a head coach then this feels like the perfect fit!

Just not sure a guy takes a 50% pay cut to make that move.
Sure he will. If he wants to be a head coach bad enough he will. Especially if he wants to go to a place that’s a perfect fit with his area of expertise. Nevada could pay more than UM, but that doesn’t mean you should take that job over UM

Wishful thinking, and I don't think the UM job is as desirable as many Griz fans believe.

Compared to a lot of other Big Sky and MWC jobs it is. Does New Mexico sound all that attractive? If you look at what could be the potential openings out west this off-season, I think UM would be one of the top jobs

I’m not talking X’s and O’s here. I’m talking leadership, motivation, and inspiration, the kind of coach and staff that makes kids feel valued, connected, committed and who connects with recruits. Obviously Bobby and staff know X’s and O’s. But they have a deficit in these other areas. Success requires more than just football knowledge. Getting the best out of your team requires more than just barking orders, dropping F-bombs and waving your arms. Having sat thru a few practices a couple years ago (not to mention the Spring game) I was appalled at the rage the staff showed as compared to team unity. And yes, some good players were overlooked and underutilized thru their careers, morale was NOT high. Several talented players drifted away. Seeing how the sausage was made was not a very pleasant thing.

If you think they know Xs and Os after today I don't know what to tell you

Of course you do, as would most Griz fans. And I am not saying there won't be some good candidates, but it won't be most the names being thrown around on eGriz tonight. I think you are looking at mostly FCS and G5 coordinators, maybe some P5 position coaches sprinkled in.

You guys are forgetting this isn’t the Griz of a decade ago, 6th last year in the conference this year bottom tier, not really a dream job, especially for the pay

Naw. Works for Coach Prime. Oh wait.

edited for brevity

This is spot on.

A few young offensive minds with GRIZ ties are doing well at their current jobs.

Kyle Samson, Aaron Pflugrad, and Justin Roper come to mind. These guys will be d1 head coaches at some point. Too bad we missed on these guys as OCs.

Should we gamble on 1 of them? Would Annese actually consider Montana? Would Andy Thompson be willing to come home? Does Akem pursue coaching whenever his pro career is over. I'd love to groom him to be an OC. That boy's charisma would do well in recruiting.

I'd love to find guys with Midwest, Southeast, and TX ties.

Anyway, without researching, these are names off the top of my head.

Make fun of Roper the qb as you like, the guy seems to do great as an OC.

Could we dip into the NDSU or SDSU coaching trees?

Maybe I'll do some extensive research for other names.

No if Bobby gets let go, we need to hire an offensive coach. Morrell’s a good guy and I do think he’d be interested, but we need to hire somebody who’s been an OC
That kind of thinking is what got us stuck with Stitt. If Hauck is done at the end of the season, we need to choose the best coach, regardless of which side of the ball they coach.

FFS, we weren’t stuck with Stitt, that guy was never given a chance. The in-bred Montana booster brain trust ran him off in the middle of a rebuild — before any of his recruits were even juniors — so they could bring back their buddy Bobby.

And the most dellusional and arrogant fans in the FCS cheered because they were desperate to go back to 2003.

Unfortunately, BH2.0 isn’t hungry like BH1.0 was. BH2.0 already made his millions. He isn’t motivated. And so he filled his staff with his gofing and fiishing buddies. Even when they don’t get resutls it doesn’t matter, BH2.0 just changes their job titles and keeps them on the staff.

The bigger issue is that Griz Nation doesn’t realize how much long-term damanage their Hauck obsession will have on Montana’s reputation as a desirable coaching destinaion.

Who wouldn’t want to coach at Montana? We have a great stadium and amazing facilities!

Seriously, what up and coming coach in their right mind would uproot their family and relocate to Missoula?

Griz Nation has already proven that if a new coach can’t rebuild the program in three seasons or less, they will happily run you, your staff, and your families out of town.

And our entitled, disloyal fans will shit talk you for the rest of their miserable lives.

For what it’s worth, do you know who didn’t chase off their new coach when he was in the middle of a rebuild, desipite not having a great record the first few years of his tenure?

Bozeman State.

They stuck with Choate. Gave him time to bring in his guys and fully implement his system. That stability paid dividends, and now, even with a new coach, that program is legitimately competing for BSC and FCS championships.
