MISSOULA - A former Montana Grizzlies football player admitted in court Tuesday that he raped a woman in September of 2010.

Former Grizzly running back Beau Donaldson pleaded guilty to sexual intercourse without consent after accepting the prosecution's plea bargain. Under the agreement, prosecutors will recommend Donaldson be sentenced to no more than 30 years, with 20 suspended -- meaning he would spend only 10 years in the custody of the Montana State Prison.

Assistant County Attorney Shaun Donovan said the alleged victim feels "conflicted" about the terms of the plea agreement.

"The victim has suffered an injury that no amount of punishing the defendant is going to fix," said Donovan.

Donaldson's attorney, Milt Datsopoulos, said the defense hopes supportive character witnesses will help his client at a sentencing hearing set for November 13th.

"Hopefully, the life he's led will be the most persuasive and compelling presentation of that entire sentence hearing," said Datsopoulos.

The rape charge stems from a September 2010 incident where Donaldson allegedly raped a woman while she slept on a couch at a house party. The judge does not have to follow the recommendations of the plea agreement when he determines Donaldson's sentence.

Datsopoulos said Donaldson is not attending the University of Montana, but is working construction and living with his parents in Missoula.

I'm not sure. A link to gogriz.com was on a couple university Facebook pages saying there was a football news conference. But the site is so limited with my phone.

reinall,

That statement sounds rather harsh and thoughtless. If you consider it funny then you may want to check in with a therapist. Wow!

I would like you to say that to the victim's father or brother.

Two lives ruined over bad choices, and apparently alcohol. Nothing will ever be the same for either one of them because of this. If you do not believe this is a tragic event and find humor in it, you need the therapist. My statement simply states, "very tragic for both of them."
