Which new guys will make an impact this year besides McGillis? I missed the Maroon Silver scrimmage so any of you that were there or have seen practices in the summer etc. please fill me in on who you think will get significant PT. Or if you wanna go with gut feelings like myself I think Anthony Johnson will be the best followed by Michael Taylor and then Stockton.

your thoughts...

McGillis is a no brainer and will emerge as the leader of this team. I think Taylor will have a big impact, and Johnson will help. Mathias Ward prior to getting Mono would have been my pick for a true freshman who could really help, but that is up in the air now since he has been out for 3 weeks. Stockton needs a redshirt year. Vassy Banny will help. Selvig appears much improved, but not consistent yet. Qvale should have a big year (got that lou lou?)

Anthony Johnson. Even if he does not score a bunch or points in a game he can contribute in so many other ways, and then he can score a bunch when needed.

I think the Griz will have their go to guys in McGillis and Hasquet, what will become very important are players who can not only become a third option, but who can do other the other things that can make the team run.

Mslacat- I agree..... it took about 5 min of watching AJ to realize he's going to make a big impact on this team..... There will be games where he scores in bunches....but quite often Jordan and Jack will be doing most of the damage offensivley..... what excites me most about him is his Defensive presence.... in years past the Griz have had maybe 1 defensive stopper as a Wing/Guard....its seems this year we have 3 (McGillis, Johnson, Jr.) now this is getting Waaayyyyyyyy ahead of myself....but this team is built like many Cinderella's of past NCAA tourney's.... A big time player who went under the radar when recruited (Hasquet).... Athletic/Defensive Guard/Wing Play (McGillis & Johnson) Savy and experienced PG play (Jr. & Taylor) Rugged big men (Qvale, Sharp) and a knock down 3pt shooter (Stauds) who can get hot and keep their team close with the bigger more athletic programs that are seeded higher. Teams with this type of personel make noise every single year in the NCAA tourney..... I'm getting WAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYY ahead of myself here.....but I think we have what it takes to make the Sweet 16 with this group.... athletically this is a much different team then what we have had here in Missoula in a long long time and light years ahead of last years squad......and for those of you that have not seen Jordan and Jack play together your in for a treat....... I'm sure people will jump down my throat about this.....but what the hell.....i've never made this outlandish of a prediction about the Griz before and i truly think we have the personel to go deep in the tourney......now its just a matter of meshing as a team, staying healthy, and winning the Big Sky so we can have the BSC tourney in Missoula.....can't wait for the season to officially kick off tonight! GO GRIZ!!!!!

Portland State might not think the same way but I like your attitude. This might be the most excited I've been for a Griz basketball season.

this team is going to be SCARRY good (ala..Halloween)

adding a true 3 with Jack..is going to be HUGE !!

even bigger IMO is the experience that Qvale, Jordo, Stauds and Jr got last year. They are going
to be one year older , stronger ..better. That is going to pay big dividend with Qvale now his soph
year and Staudacker now his Junior year !!

i wonder if tonights game is going to be on BIg Scam tv ??

Based on the exhibition game I just returned from, you can add Vassy Bannny to the mix of contributors. He is tenacious, quick and a heckuva defender. :) I also think Selvig has vastly improved and Michael Taylor was tremendous in tonight's game. The Griz sure look to be in a position to redshirt all three freshmen.
