New Year's Eve games.

Judging by the (absence of) fans for an early New Year's Big Sky hoops game... and if attendance is similar around the Big Sky... I would hope conference officials consider a different opening week schedule for next year. IF, that is, the conference considers its fans.

There were decent crowds for both games this weekend. But if we could win three or four in a row, I think it would generate enough enthusiasm to make Dahlberg Arena a very tough place to play. Go Griz!

As it turned out, my post (20 minutes before the game tip) was premature. Maybe it was the nature of an afternoon game, but at 1:40 it looked like there were barely 500 fans seated.

I know I can be a bit of a Debbie Downer....... but can anyone who has been a Griz BB fan, and attended home games for many years, remember a game where only 500 fans attended? It HAS TO BE the product on the court. What else could it be? I know two of my friends, both long time season ticket holders, say the games are boring now. They now skip several games during the season. Got to be a reason for those empty seats. If I am wrong, please provide the reason.

Big Sage is correct. I was wrong.

What I was trying to say was.... at 1:40 (20 minutes before game time) the arena looked empty and it was. That's when I wrote my original post. HOWEVER, 25 minutes later -- at tip off -- the stands had filled considerably. So, my original post was premature, and WRONG. Sorry for raising a false (negative) flag.

The official paid attendance in the game box score was 3337 (about 600 fewer than Thursday's attendance). So, my original estimate was simply premature. The 3300 + number was actually pretty good for a 2 p.m. Saturday game.

I go to ALL Griz men's and women's hoops games and love them. I do NOT find them boring (like I find most NBA games boring). All Montana's home court games this season (men's and women's) have been very competitive and great fun. Go Griz.
