Saw this on the conference realignment board, thought some here might be interested.

Johnathan Swift in 'Gulliver's Travels' called them the 'Big Endians' and the 'Little Endians'.

Problem is, there's the haves like Alabama and USC, the havenots, like Colorado State and Tulsa, then there's the FSC's, or Food Stamp Conferences like the Big Sky, which can't even raise enough cash to compete with the havenots.

I've been saying for months (not that I'm a genius) that another split was coming....and with the BCS move towards a playoff and with every other level already HAVING a playoff, I would fully expect that the "Havenots" level will have a playoff as well...THAT'S the level Montana needs to be playing at, not the Food Stamp Conference level. Time for a wholesale rewrite of the conference affiliations at the Havenot level, which allegedly NCAA still holds some sway over.

Its been coming for about 10 years...
I for one will be happy when this happens, better rivalries and a better conference.

I would like to see the NCAA disolved as many schools strike out on their own to new football alliances. Create a new governing body that has the best interest of the kids coaches schools and fans rather than about 15 presidents with a lot of pull who want money going their way.

The NCAA is riding a tiger, or perhaps a better analogy is the tail of the dog comprised of the big 5 BCS conferences. The truth of the matter is that there are are a fair number of unofficial NFL farm teams masquerading as 'college' football, which rival NFL franchises in the amount of resources they bring to bear on their football programs. Everyone else falls into that nebulous category with an official label of 'student athlete' that barely struggles to maintain any credibility or relevance in the shadow of major market college football.

The world of college football is a mix of NFL farm systems and college sponsored athletic programs. The NCAA is struggleing to find an identity in this highly polarized existence.

As Paytonlives mentioned it has been obvious for a very long time this sort of division was eventually coming. If you look at some of my earliest posts on eGriz you'll see I made this very point in opposing the "Move Up Now" crowd back then. It is still unclear just when this will happen, but it will happen. It is inevitable.

When the new 1-AA (or whatever name they use) is formed there will be a natural fit for the Griz within it. A "move up" to the new second tier is where we belong. The thought of us being competitive with the big dogs is foolish. Not to mention they don't want us anywhere in the picture. More than half of the current FBS can't consistently compete with the big dogs on the field, nor financially when the bar is set at $100 million annual athletic budgets.

For now Montana just needs to take care of its own business. Clean up the program where needed. Continue to field competitive teams. Finally, maintain our strong fan base. If we do this we will be in the thick of it when the Ohio State's of the world finally boot the Utah State, Colorado State, and New Mexico States to the curb.

Right on the mark. I have been saying the very same thing for a long time. It will happen. Very well said.
