I get what you're saying, but it isn't subjective at all. It's as simple as yes or no. Did the ball carrier alter his stride as he approached the goal line or not?

I don't like taking points off the board, but it is what it is.

The subjectivity is in whether they call it or not. I've seen many, many instances where they DON'T call it...

Well... If it's a rule, call it otherwise get the rule changed. Sort of like last week's bowing. It's the same rule, and it didn't get called, but should have.

Exactly. And I saw a Sac State guy today do the throat slash...plus what's the difference between the toe drag and the hyper-celebration every time a DB breaks up a pass?

I couldn't watch the game, did the throat slash get called?

See, that chaps my ass too. If there's a rule and someone violates the rule, do your job and call a penalty.

Hence my issue with the subjectivity of it. Personally, I don't see why throat slashing or high stepping/foot dragging is verboten, but acting like a complete ass after successfully defending a pass is viewed as "ok"....None of them affect the play on the field....they're trying to make it like the No Fun League....

Stupid rule in my opinion. Penalize on the kickoff, but don't take points off the board. I have more of a problem with this silly horse collar rule. Tackle wherever you can grab except the facemask. That bobcat player got screwed by that call last night. I don't want to see injuries either, but it's a fast and violent game.

Two key points (think I got the wording right):
Coaches wanted this rule.
So basically the coaches said, "Normal 'coachum up' does not seem to get through to these kids. We need a bigger club." And they got it.

The video also had
It's supposed to be egregious.
And there's the problem -- when does it become "egregious"? That's the subjective part, because some crews call pretty much anything, and others don't seem to call it at all.

This change also only applies when it occurs during the scoring play. It has no bearing on acts that occur after a touchdown or any other play.

I also believe the word egregious is not included in the rule. Under the rule, any taunting is a penalty.

I was listening to the MSU game while driving home from Missoula. When the CP player got called for the high-stepping, had he gained the line to make to get a first down, or had it been 4th and goal? If he had made the line to gain, shouldn't it have been 1st down after the penalty was assessed?

it was 4th and 3 from the 12, after the penalty was marked off it was 4th and 9 from the 18. only would have been a 1st down if they reached the line to gain after the penalty was enforced since it was a live ball penalty.

The line to gain was the goal line. I think it was 3rd and goal from the 8

4th and 3 at MTST 12 Kori Garcia run for 9 yds to the MntSt 3 CAL POLY Penalty, unsportsmanlike conduct (Kori Garcia) to the MntSt 18
Timeout CAL POLY, clock 02:09
4th and 9 at MTST 18 Chris Brown pass incomplete to Lance Mudd, broken up by Robert Marshall

Why on Earth is this sport trying to shut down EVERY human expression of success? He ALTERED HIS STRIDE? Seriously? That degrades the sport so badly that the rules require that the entire point of the sport -- a touchdown -- be removed as punishment? We just can't have successful young athletes running around altering their strides. It is patently offensive and must be strictly prohibited.

This is just complete BS.

For the same reason everyone gets a participation ribbon and they don't keep score in some youth sports.

I too thought it was pretty much a bullshit call. That is no different then when a DE or safety makes a great tackle and gets up and makes some gesture with their arms like flexing muscles. It is getting to be a bit to much.

Most people are mixing up rules. The flag was for taunting, it was not for celebration. Flexing after a sack is not taunting. There are rules about celebration, but that is not what was called on the Poly running back.

He didn't even look at the defender just altered his stride. In this league so much is botched a day these types of penalties are what bad officials can and will focus on. There's a lot of penalties called that don't effect the actual play. Too many in my estimation.

I hear you but they are both taunting. Celebrating over a runner you just tackled I definitely taunting if you're the player laying on the ground.
