How in hell could the kitties (3-6) get a vote, maybe Durham votes.

OK, this is absolutely ridiculous this week. This poll sucks. I cannot believe how ridiculous some of the teams getting votes are.

Oral Roberts loses to a 1-5 UL Lafayette team and only drops 3 spots?!?! Scott Sutton (ORU's head coach) should be ashamed since he's the chairman. Their RPI is 197. 197!!!!!! Whatever shred of credibility this poll had last week, just walked out the door. Pathetic...wow.

And Wagner only getting 1 vote is sad. They've done some pretty good things thus far. They have a game against UCLA on Wednesday. If they make a good showing, hopefully they'll start getting some attention.

So anyways, I've decided to make this a weekly thing with releasing my "At least partially, somewhat unbiased, slightly credible" Mid-Major Poll. Lord knows its better than the garbage these coaches are putting out.

MGR,

Don't you think the voting is simply a reflection of the number of programs, thus votes, East of the Mississippi? The West has pretty much always gotten screwed. You simply aren't going to get much respect until you dump a "name" program like Gonzaga did a few years ago.

For the older posters in here, you can remember when the Griz barely got votes in football, and slowly that began to change. Now we get the benefit of the doubt in pollsters minds at times.

Yeah, you can definitely tell that most of these votes are coming off of names, not actually on how that team is performing this year. I suppose that it is tought to try and rank team like this when they don't get a lot of national exposure. But as a coach, when you take on a job like this, you should try to make a decent effort at it.

This poll really doesn't mean that much, but I just find it very disturbing on what's going on with the Oral Roberts crap. It looks really bad that they are getting so many votes after playing so bad when they're head coach is in charge of the poll.

I really don't see how you could leave Pacific out of this especially after they just punished Fresno St. with a 36 point beating. Which I witnessed while I am home for winter break. Just look at their losses at Oregon, vs Nevada and at Santa Clara (where the WCC officials gave SC 25 more ft's, hopefully that doesn't happen next game too when the Griz play there.) Two of those are expected. The thing about Pacific is they are just hitting their stride and after losing 7 players from last years 27-4 team a slow start was expected. They've just had two very convincing wins and tomorrow they have a big test at UTEP. Sure I am biased as they are my home town team but they are certainly a top 25 midmajor. Although I do agree that Montana should be much higher than 24. If they keep winning they will keep moving up that board and hopefully reach all the way up to 3 behind Gonzaga and Pacific ;)

In all seriousness though I really see a lot of last year's Pacific team in this years Montana team. You may remember a 22 game winning streak, 8th seed in the tournament, up to 16th in the country and undefeated in conference play. The reason is just like the Big West the Big Sky is not all that strong and the Griz look to be a nice step above the rest of the conference at this point at least. With the way the OOC games are going I can really see the Griz putting together a magical season. I understand it is wishful thinking that the Griz won't lose a BSC game but with the way they look now it's not out of the question. I look forward to attending more games in the Adam Center when I get back and hopefully having two teams to cheer for come March again.

I had Pacific up there until this week. There are just too many other teams who have done better with stronger schedules up to this point. Three losses this early in the season makes it hard to be ranked when you got teams that have 6 or 7 wins and only 1 loss.

Plus, looks like my ranking wasn't all that bad after their loss last night, eh? :thumb: UTEP's an untested team up to this point and its a win that Pacific really needed to hold/earn a spot in a mid-major poll.

Pacific had a great run the last couple of years. I really think that's why so many people have them ranked so high. The mid-major poll goes too much off of names, not enough off of how teams are playing this season. I liked watching a team from the northwest do well though, and hope that they can continue with a few more 20 win season in the upcoming years.

Yeah the loss last night was rough. I thought about this post after too, I just knew I was going to have to relive the game here ;) Game was sent into OT with a three point shot with 5 seconds left by a guy who had never made a three in his four years of college. The Big West is so weak though they'll get to 20 wins. On to Montana, hopefully I'll be able to make the Griz game tonight at Santa Clara. All just a matter of finding someone to go with me
