New look Griz WR corps

Can’t say I’m very hopeful or excited about this group. But if they’re physical, competitive, focused and fight for the gawd damn ball this group will be an Improvement over 24.
Hauck sticking with guys who weren’t making plays last years really makes this group a mystery. Hope he starts benching guys who don’t protect the ball and who never come down with contested balls. Like he used to do before he went to UNLV and learned how to lose.

Finch should have gotten way more snaps last season. He should be reliable moving forward.

I think we know what we got with Deck and his role probably doesn’t change in 25. Returner who occasionally makes a play in the passing game.

I think Lang may surprise and carve out a role.

Was Monte Gillman scout team POTY because of versatility/execution or bc he was making dudes miss? Either way it’s encouraging but hoping for the latter.

I will say that as much as I loved Bergen, White, and Fontes, it did feel like things were getting stale a bit with those guys. Obviously Bergen was battling something all year and was still very dynamic in the return game, but it felt like he didn’t quite have as productive a year in the receiving game. Then Fontes and his constant drops, that was a problem all year. White I will give credit caught literally everything thrown his way. May have had the best hands on the team.

Point being, I’m excited for some new faces. Those three guys all things aside had a great year, but the younger guys are ready to step up, and I believe are gonna do a great job. They just need a QB that can get them the ball now.

I’m generally optimistic about this group. I think one thing we’ve missed is that Mitch Roberts type that’s a big target, good at finding creases and can move the chains. Not sure I see someone like that on the roster right now.

How could you miss this one? I would say, that's a big target moving across the middle....

I was talking about the last couple of years and specifically about our receivers. Sawyer was a big dude but more of a deep threat. Mitch was an effective receiver in a way that was unique from our smaller corps in 23 and 24. Hopefully we have that on our roster. I see the size on the depth chart and hopefully they play well and can get on the field because I think it’d be an asset.

Looking back at highlights, what struck me was how (relatively) few times our receivers got separation on a defender or found a hole in a zone. Some of that was on the QB(s), but not all of it. (FWIW: The Griz were #96, of 123, in passing yards per completion.) Hopefully, this crop of receivers will have that knack.
Our receiving group has never gotten kudos for their blocking, which is extremely important.

Why are we sleeping on Guernsey?
Ditto Talen Reynolds (understandable due to the immensely talented experienced HBs ahead of him).

As for Guernsey, he's at a position that has a lot of playing time to compete for. There's very little WR experience returning. I'm sure, competition is wide open. Why not Guernsey?

Reynolds is listed as a safety on the roster - obviously that could be subject to change.

Not trying to be a downer here but TE's (of late) just aren't used as RZ / height mis-matches.

2024: 4 of 21 TDs caught by TEs
2023: 3 of 18 TDs caught by TEs
2022: 5 of 27 TDs caught by TEs
2021: 7 of 21 TDs caught by TEs

So 21 wasn't too bad, over the two seasons of 21-22 10 of the 12 TDs were caught by Cole Grossman who was used a lot as a slot WR in many instances.

I'm sure it'll be fine. But wow, that's an inexperienced crew.
