New Coaching Staff.

for those that think this is going to be a end of days thing, get a grip. I say that they win conference and maybe even compete for national title run. I personally have known coach Semore since he was in 4th grade. he started as a 6th grader on an 8th grade team. he has had the best up bringing in football that you can imagine. his father is very well known in Arizona and considered to be one of the top 5 coaches in that state when he retired. his uncle Enos Semore was the head baseball coach with the university of Oklahoma, many years. he has the back ground and the knowledge. I am sure that there will be someone to help coach Semore with his duties. I guess you need to just wait before passing judgment. I bet you will be surprised.

What a great first post!!!

I admire your optimism, it is reflected in Coach Stitt's personality as I have observed it so far. Remember that optimism is easy, reality is at times a bunch of ....reality.

I like Coach Stitt, he is a bit of a banty rooster and definitely cocksure of himself at Um. That said, I think the question is, will he not run over his other coaches in his enthusiasm? Will he take on too much in a desire to prove himself. If the defense hits a tough patch will he step into the middle of Gregorak and start "coaching"...ie...can he let his coaches coach???

Sure, I know...he's going to win the conference first year and will always win instate recruiting battles until Jesus returns ... yadda , yadda , yadda!

I don't think either is or will happen this year...there is a lot to swallow in one bite. But, again, I like him, and think he is going to work things out and be great for the griz. Carry on! :coffee:

One thing for sure is Stitt will not mingle in Tye's defense. Tye has proved he can coordinate the defense and Stitt knows it. The conversations I've had are nothing but excitement within. IMO if we can fill the QB spot and a replacement for Hermansen watch out because this will be a very good football team.

I think one of the main things between a good team and a great team is belief. Stitt believes, and expects to win, it will pass onto the players. For so many years the Griz believed that they were going to win, no matter the situation. Lots of teams have great talent, can their coaches get them to believe.

Stitt seems focused and sure of himself. I like that.

Of course, Pat Kennedy seemed sure of himself, too.

Senator, Stitt is no Pat Kennedy.

Understatement of the year; hands down.

Last few seasons haven't been representative of anything that looked like sound special teams coaching - no doubt. If it weren't for guys like EH, welcome back by the way, the Delaney years would have been even less successful.

Honestly can't recall Pflu's success or lack thereof in this phase, but I do know that a run of guys like Segars, Mariani and Carpenter made your boy Bobby look awfully good. Because I can also recall when everyone on the stadium knew he was going to run a fake punt because he was Riverboat Bobby, which he was famous for as his ST coaching.

Not to mention Heidelberger, who was so good no one would kick off to him his senior season.

Heidelberger had probably the most impressive HS highlight tape I have ever seen.

You need to watch more tape

Hasn't Stitt already "mingled" in the defense, by taking some of the defensive slots for more offensive recruits? At the FCS level, the allocation of scholarships between likely offensive and defensive players has an impact, as does the allocation of the players/talent on the team. For example, if Trumaine Johnson played at receiver instead of corner, the UM defense wouldn't have been as good. Stitt's offense needs alot of good receivers, like about 8 alternating. I don't know if the lack of need of fullback and tight end recruits offsets the increased need for receivers. I doubt that it does, but don't know for sure.

I just heard from an unnamed source that was recently in Sidney that we won't need to practice kickoffs much since there is no way Stitt's offense can score any points and we won't need to practice punt returns because our woosy defense won't stop anyone as we lose all our games - somewhere around 72-0. Biblical, to be sure.

But seriously folks, Hauck was a master at ST execution and I don't feel like we have dominated this part of the game since he left us for the promised land (UNLV). I am a little disappointed to see that Jason Semore is only doing this as part of his official duties, but I am hoping that enough time is spent on ST. It was a part of the game that cost us under Delaney.
To be fair to Delaney and his staff, at least the Special Teams improved a little during the three years he was here.

You have to admit that last year it wasn't the liability it was in 2012.

But yeah, hope to see continued improvement.

When I think about special teams with Delaney I think of..Muffed punts by Ngyuen, not having a reliable kicker...and getting punts blocked...so if that's what you mean by being good than I would have to agree.
You missed the point of my post.

I didn't say we were good.

I said we improved from 2012 through last season, which is true.

We did find a pretty reliable kicker, and special teams stopped costing us games.

They had a long way to go before I'd start calling them "good", and I hope Stitt puts a lot more focus on ST going forward, but to say that last year's ST were as bad as 2012's ST is just flat out ridiculous.

Doesn't seem to me like Stitt has done anything over the top since he's been here. Says it how he sees it: He came in and picked up the best recruits in Montana, acknowledged the winning tradition here and the fact that he needs to win. Mostly I just see fans on message boards interpreting such behavior as cocky or arrogant or confident or whatever. Stitt seems pretty down to earth and respectful to me. So now you have one more opinion in the mix.

As for PR's comment about Stitt mingling with the defense, I think that is one issue that an offensive minded coach who is also the coordinator has to keep in check. You can't take all the best players for offense because you want a good offense. You really need to put them where they will make the team better. Really excited for this season. I think the team is pretty loaded right now, hopefully the chemistry and concepts come together against a tough schedule.
