New Coaches= Conference change?

Still cant understand why anybody that has the ability to fire a synapse in their limited intellect would ever want to move up to an inferior product without a playoff system.

These same shallow retards probably vote D, are for gun control and letting violent felons out of prison.....aint that right tahokeyo?

I suppose if you want to get technical it is the University of Montana - Missoula, just like its University of Montana - Dillon now. Nobody refers to it that way, but since it is part of the University of Montana system, Missoula is just one campus.

So looks like both sides are right!

Montana Tech OF the University of Montana.

The schools that are part of the University of Montana system are sub components of the University of Montana. The only free standing university in the state besides UM is MSU. All other campuses answer to their main campus.

The University of Montana is not playing "Right were it belongs". Maybe you are but there is always SUU or Northern Colorado. Heck maybe Carrol College needs more fans (they do great in their conference) you could run over there and root for them if you feel so comfortable aiming for low expectations via conference that is.

I would speculate that having UW and UM in your im a fan of on your sig means your happy with your one favorite team in a real conference, and happy with UM in the Big Joke Conference as you coud really care less about UMs affiliations.

Many of us dont see UM as being the university of Missoula but Montana, and there are more like 300,000 - 500,000 in montana who follow UM football. Thats a hell of alot more than just Missoula as your trying to advocate. Dont expect everyone to set the bar as low as you do for the University of Montana and hopes for our University to grow.

Actually I am able to tell the difference between what 3 million people and 100,000 looks like. You'd think someone living in Tokyo would as well.

I've seen what happens to a top-tier program when you go on a string of losing years. UW has the resources to go drop $4 or $5 million on coaching salaries, and spend $250 million to renovate a stadium that already seats 71,000 in order to stay competitive. Are you going to buy the Griz a new 71,000 seat stadium after you talk 3,000,000 Tokyoians into moving to Frenchtown? Pay for the light rail tunnel to move the people in & out because the traffic is orders of magnitude worse than it already is? Are you going to pay out of your own pocket for Urban Meyer to move to Missoula to coach the mighty Griz? If not, who? A collection box outside the front door of Red's?

I've posted quite a few #'s in this thread why I think the Griz are where they should be size-wise:

- Montana is in the bottom three states in the nation in population density, GDP, and GDP per capita.
- We're likely top 3 to 5 in the nation (if not #1) in the # of neighboring citizens that already go to the games on a per capita basis. Something Griz fans should be proud of. Of the ones I researched we were 1st or 2nd depending on how far out you look at surrounding population. That is great for the Griz program. Point being we're already in the stratosphere and as much as you'd like to wish it away, there aren't that many people available that are going to come to watch the Griz on Saturdays.

Montana is in the bottom three states in what it has available/can afford, and in the top three in what it is already giving. You're familiar with the Scotty from Star Trek line?

Show me some #'s that Montana can afford it instead of wishful Napoleonic thinking.

Every once in a while I agree with you and this is one. There have been hints that the BCS would move on doing their own thing, leaving the mid-majors behind. I would be all for merging the current FCS with the left-behind mid majors. I think the Griz could compete with the Idahos and Wyomings of the world. Boise State eventually if we were ever back in the same conference.

No way does Montana ever compete with USC, UW, U of Nike, Ohio State, LSU, Texas, Oklahoma, Colorado, Michigan, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, etc.

My degree says Montana College of Mineral Science and Technology....no UM of there...lol.

And you confirmed what I said...its really University of Montana-Missoula. And yes I understand the setup of the schools VERY well. Missoula is still a campus, thats in Missoula and is still a component of the University of Montana system, it just happens to be the main campus.

Finally..................I will be able to sleep at night.

Thank you for your acceptance.

We're very glad to have Jonathan Smith here in Boise. Although, I look forward to the day Montana is FBS(if this term still exists in a few years) and stops losing coaches. Still don't understand Hauck's move to Vegas.

How can you say CU is irrelevant? That's a very good school with a solid athletic background. I'm confused as to why would say that.

I wasn't saying CU is irrelevant. I was saying that the school everyone wants us to be already exists in Boulder, Colorado. No amount of wishing for us to become Boulder is going to make it happen until 3 million people move to Frenchtown. Boulder is a cool place and is basically what Missoula would be if Frenchtown had an NFL, NBA, MLB, and NHL team. Along with all the other things that go along with having 3 million people living there.

Instead of wishing Missoula was Boulder, why not appreciate Missoula for what it is, a small market team playing right where it should be? Or move to Boulder if life is too embarassing to admit you're a fan of a school who plays football in a conference that that doesn't include USC?
I got yeah. I guess I was confused by your earlier statement.

There is plenty of evidence that Montana is not "playing right where it should be." A couple of samples:

- Average UM attendance last 6 years: 25,000
Average attendance last 6 years rest of BSC: 8000
- UM WL last 6 years: 69-13
Next best BSC WL last 6 years: 47-25
- UM winning BSC championship 17 years in a row....

If not for MSU, the numbers for the rest of the BSC would look much worse. It looks the same if you go 15-20 years.

So, you're one of those myopic types who operates under assumption that Montana will ALWAYS have a winning program at the FCS level....

TBH when app state, ,most of the CAA if not all of it, and a majority of the eastern teams with any actual success and fanbase in FBS move up it should be easy to continue to dominate a watered down FCS for Montana.

It is also very possible Montana could be king of the dung heap when the FCS is gutted out in the near future for quite some time. Rock it! Least we will have playoffs with junior colleges and we can claim to be the best of the junior college level in college football!

That scenario is preferable to people like mayor, noser, alpha and co versus any actual risk taken in moving up and playing quality opponents who actually might beat us. Good god that would be UNACCEPTABLE!

People on this board bitch about losing now, but only because they think the griz shouldnt lose to the likes of Sacramento State. Who despite the Oregon game and griz were uninspiring the rest of the season. I dont recall many folks bitching on this board or walking around town about UM losing to Tennessee.

I could/would accept occasional losing seasons if the Griz were to get out of the wading pool and swim to the deep end.

And seriously, anyone who bases their attendance/support on the team's RECORD, isn't a true fan anyways. Thus, it's the bandwagoner fans who don't want to move up. 8-) TRUE fans want to see the Griz compete at the highest level possible.

The NFL it is then. Do you see us a better fit in the NFC or AFC West? Not good enough? NFC East? AFC North? The AFC East would be fun watching the Miami Dolphins come to town trying to play in 20 below in late December. That would be awesome.

It in NOT POSSIBLE for the Griz to play in the NFL. It is possible for the Griz to play in any level of COLLEGE football, and the highest level of that would be FBS.
