New coach? When?

This is a seminal moment in Griz football history. Coach Delaney picked up the mess handed to him, hopefully as a one year caretaker. The two year contract assures he gets paid for two years to hold together the mess for one year.

If the administration elects to retain him, it will be a clear signal that athletics are being de-emphasized under this regime.

Stand by as we should hear something shortly if a change is to be made.

Go Griz.

Correct me if I am wrong, but the administration made it's intention known to keep him by giving him a 2 year contract. The administration has already made it's decision. It is up to Mick whether he retires or not. If he comes back, I will root for his success. If he retires, he gets a standing ovation by me for stepping into a mess and keeping his head held hide and griz pride intact all the while installing a sense of accountability for this team and university.

I have heard nothing in any of his statments that leads me to believe that he will retire. To the contrary, I think he believes that he did all that could be done under the circumstances as a coach. It appears that he believes that youth led to most of the problems this year. I fully expect him to choose to coach this team next year.

While I don't have a crystal ball that will tell me if the team will rise again under his direction or we will get another disappointing season a couple of questions arise for me.

If MD has a better season next season does he continue on? If not, do one of his assistants step into the position of head coach.

If the answer to both of these questions in no, then why not move now to hire a coach for the longer term?

Are you all serious!?! Has anybody watched the games? Coaching sucked everybody could see that! McD is not a head coach he needs to go. Even worse Roots sports anchors questioned every game coached by this feller'. New coach paaaaleeeeze Griz Admins!!! Go Griz!!!

Really doubt it's going to happen. First off Delaney himself seems to think that everything went about as well as expected. His statement after the Cat game says it all...

"And we probably played about as well as we can.” – Griz coach Mick Delaney

I don't think there's much chance of him retiring, and there certainly isn't any chance of Engstrom forcing the situation.

Any indication on how the players feel about all this. If MD has they're confidence then go for it, if not then problems will brew.

Yeah, we all know that Roots sports anchors know football better than anyone else. Get over it. Unless he retires, he is not being let go. We cant afford to payout another contract. Unless you are willing to start a fund to buy out his contract.

Any word when the results of all the investigation will come down? What coach would want to come here with that dark cloud hanging over Washington Griz. Why does this have to take this long.

Not this year, this was posted on facebook today.

Dear Griz Nation: Nov. 19, 2012

As the football season comes to a conclusion, I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to you for your continued support of Griz football. Fans showed up in record numbers to watch the Grizzlies this season and I join the university administration, coaching staff and student-athletes in saying Thank You.

A 5-6 record is disappointing. At the same time, I appreciate the team’s hard work, and head coach Mick Delaney’s time, dedication, and heart-felt commitment to our football student-athletes. He and the assistant coaches have worked tirelessly. I look forward to his returning as the head coach for the 2013 football season and working toward a Big Sky Con
ference championship.

I am eager to see a resolution of the ongoing NCAA investigation. While a completion date is still uncertain, Jean Gee, senior associate athletic director, is working cooperatively with the NCAA to bring the matter to a conclusion. I know that, in the end, the athletic department will emerge stronger than ever.

Men’s and women’s basketball is well under way. Both teams are off to a great start, and I ask you to help us fill Dahlberg Arena and cheer them on to a conference championship. As you know, the programs are under great leadership. I appreciate all the wonderful coaches we have in the athletic department.

Thank you for your continued support. As always…I know Griz fans everywhere will rally together. Have a happy and safe Thanksgiving!

We finished 9th in a 13 team league. That is as good as we can play? He'll probably get an extension. The parties over, at least for two to three years.
