THE HERD said:Question for ya Griz fans....Have you guys ever had a ND boy on your roster? While ND is far from a recruiting hot bed, the Bison get 2-4 a year that almost always end up contributing greatly to the team. Most of the time they are not the stars, but they are the hard nosed, hard working type of players that are the glue of a roster....I am sure you guys can relate with the small town MT kids. They are the recruits that set the example of what hard work means. We get a lot of really good Olineman out of ND, while most still come from MN, the ones out ND almost always pan out. We got two good ones last year in Plankers and Lechler.......Plankers came in as a true freshmen at 6-5 300 with good feet(basketball player as well). NDSU has around 20 guys give or take a couple every year on the roster, which is really good when you look at ND's small population. I know you guys could pull a few kids out of Western No Dak for sure, but do you even look is my question. I know you offered Brent Qvale out of Williston a few years back, as did we and every other FCS team in the region, but he is now playing for the Huskers. His brother played a little round ball for ya guys a couple years back...Brian Qvale. Just wondering if you consistently recruit ND or just come over when there is a truly big time talent, such as Qvale? Examples this year are starters..Drevlow at DT, Beck at OLB, Grothman at FB, Smith at WR and so on. There tends to be 4-8 starters every year that are home grown. This was one of the few years that there was not a starting OL from ND, last year there was Austin Richard, but Plankers and Lechler will be in the mix soon. Lechler by the way is out of Beach, which is practically MT already.....only a few miles from Wibaux...did you guys look at him at all?
Walkon79 said:Just did a little quick research and found that there were 45 Montana kids on the rosters for Dickinson and Minot State alone in 2012. Some from as far west as Missoula, Ronan Superior.
There are NO North Dakota kids at Rocky, Western, Tech, Northern or Carroll, and very few from the upper midwest.
Apparently all of the Montana schools primarily recruit Montana, the Mountain West and the West Coast.

I agree with you Herd. For some reason, Montana for a long time only looked west for talent even when we had a coach from Plentywood. Heck I think it's not much more than two hours from Plentywood to Beach. I think it is a mindset that has perpetuated from before Don Read. I think part of it happens because of where most people move after college if they want to go to a big city which is Seattle or Portland.
However, the question could also be asked if UND or NDSU ever try to recruit Montana? I know Jamestown College, now Jamestown University?, used to recruit kids from western Montana and Montana in general.

I think MT has the better highschool football out of the two states, but mostly just due to shear numbers. Quite a bit more kids to choose from over in Mt than ND. I don't remember the exact numbers, but I wanna say Mt population is close to double what ND's population is......anybody know the exact numbers on that?
WYOBISONMAN said:When figuring the ticket sale bonus in as well as the bonuses for winning playoff and Natty games, Bohl will be making a significant chunk of money for an FCS coach. I am surprised he is still at NDSU, but it sure seems that is what he wants and perhaps the only other position he would ever consider is Nebraska HC. I know quite a few Husker fans, and most of them would be pretty opposed to him coming back because of the performance of the defense while he was the DC there. I think they are being pretty foolish. It is obvious that Bohl knows the coaching game very well and could likely have a great impact at Nebraska. But, I doubt his phone will be ringing anytime soon. Nebraska is going to stick with recruiting from the FBS ranks and not take a risk with an FCS coach.....let alone a coach that was fired from there.

Bisonation said:Bisonation is a trend, not a mirage. Recruits know they will win at ndsu, the entire fanbase, coaching staff and players demand winning. They are afraid to lose, that's whats happening at NDSU.
NDSU is a big ten/big 12 program that just happens to be in the fcs, we are not saying they would be successful at big ten/big 12...... we are saying that coach bohl built up NDSU the way he saw at Nebraska.
Montana needs to get back to that and join with NDSU and enter the Mountain West as travel partners in our opinion.

Your fantasy, I'll stay out of it. NDSU and MT will NEVER be players at a higher level for a myriad of reasons.
The big boys will solidify their status in the next few years with 4 or 5 big boy conferences and kick the mountain west, mac, cusa, big east to the curb. FYI NDSU and MT won't be in the mix, nor will Boise State. It's inevitable and when it happens we can form a second tier level with the good FCS teams and lower level FBS and have a competitive level with a playoff and rid our selves of N Colo, Suu, etc.
If you think NDSU makes that cut can't help you.
