NDSU's Bohls new contract.

Montana gave Tinkle attendance incentives because Dahlberg was running half empty and more butts in the seats is gravy money. They needed more attendance for Bball. That driver does not exist in FB where we have been essentially sold out for years, even after expansions. At UM such incentives are for revenue generation, not for coaching perks. The only chance I see for this is if attendance declines and a lot of seats become unsold. Or post next expansion which is unlikely to occur during my lifetime.

Or it could be an easy incentive to make if the BOR isn't willing to allow an increase in base salary.
Not really; in an essentially sold out situation, any percentage comes right off the bottom line, just like salary increase. If we suddenly start drawing 18,000 like second best in the BSC, there could then be incentive that does not remove from the bottom line.

Unless we can compete at this level we will be left in the dust. Long-term deals like this demonstrate a school's commitment.
This. Unless UM is willing to compete financially at, at least, this level, I think the Griz are doomed to medioctrity ... and it breaks my heart.

I want UM's football coach to be paid well, to be on par with other top tier FCS program's. But this past season's failures had nothing to do with salary's. BH was only the fifth-highest paid coach in the FCS when he left for UNLV, and the Griz were just fine the entire time under him, though some idiots don't think winning 89 percent of the time is good enough in college football. Ash and Baldwin are not in Bohl's salray range either, and those programs are thriving right now. I'm sorry, but losing six games last season had nothing to do with coach compensation packages.

And UM doesn't really need to look at this right now anyway, because unless the Griz are a complete disaster in 2013, Delaney will be the head coach again in 2014 anyway.

BTW: Things that concern me as it relates to getting left in the dust, are..Failure to build a full football facility (Academic Center, offices and new lockerrrooms), failure to build an indoor practice facility and low recruiting budget and believe it or not, replacing a completely out-dated Griz Vision. Those things are more pressing to me right now than the coaches salary.

Bohl's has been very successful, but he has had a few players with discipline problems. They should fire him without cause and move their program in a different direction. Change of leadership would be great. Look at what it has done for the Griz.

NDSU gets absolutely nothing from the state of nd for coach salary, schollys. All boosters. If NDSU got treated fairly by the state govt of Nodak, they'd have a 40,000 stadium and basketball arena and mountain west invite. NDSU does a lot on its own.

One of the biggest reasons coaches bolt for FBS is that they want their assistant coaches to be able to make a decent living, too. We need to pay our head coach a competitive salary, but we need to also do the same for the assistant coaches. There is no valid reason for UM not to pay at or near the top in FCS, and we need to publicly state that as our philosophy. We are behind the curve. It's time to fix that problem, starting with our next head coach.

I would love to see Montana on par with NDSU, I've always been envious of NDSU's commitment to their athletic program. Montana & Montana State need to get into NDSU's ballpark.

This is all to sad. For years and years our mind sets were WE are the Montana Grizzlies!! Top of all FCS and could compete with nearly anyone. Come to WA Griz and play us!!!! It is sad as now we are wishing we had the same support that a fairly new FCS member gets in NDSU. Do not get me wrong we still have plenty to be proud of. It's just that we are quickly seeing others catc us and pass us by in a short time relatively speaking. I think what scares a good many of us is we do not seem to have leadership that cares. To me to much ground wor has been done to abandon this all.

We are like the Jr High team that went undefeated and won every game by no less than 20. But we are all Jr's & Sr's now and those "little kids" we blew out all the time have grown up and caught us. Some have passed us.

The athletic department might have an easier time increasing coaching salaries. I am amazed at the sources of opposition to the improvements you've mentioned. I know students who believe that these improvements are unreasonable. I blame that on the way the improvements have been sold the students. The administration has suggested that the academic center for example is really for everyone and anybody can use it. Maybe that's true technically, but given its location and the students its intended for cater to, it seems dishonest to suggest everyday students are going to use it.
Rather than take a stand for the need for an academic center catering to athletes who spend most of their non class hours preparing to represent their school on the field of play, the administration has chosen the timid path of appeasement.
Some students are upset and they should be, given what they pay in tuition, which at best stays the same and at worst continues to rise.

Many faculty have also taken a havenot attitude, despite the fact that Education, Law, Forestry, Journalism, Pharmacy, Business, Native American Studies and Honors, to name a few have all been able to expand their footprints in the last 15 years.

And then there is Pat Williams who has opposed these improvements on the Board of Regents, suggesting that they were preferential and wrongly isolate student athletes from the rest of the student population.

Raising coaching salaries might be easier.

5th highest paid coach in the Big Sky, or in all of FCS. It would surprise me if he were 5th in FCS.

What a steaming crock of shit.

Cry, cry, cry

NDSU's new 200 m track building is the first significant thing NDSU has built on its own.

The City of Fargo builds NDSU everything they want, until the Fargo voters wised up to it.

In the late 1980's, NDSU was inflating attendance figures for years (saying 18,000 instead of 10-12,000) in order to convince Fargo voters it needed a nearly 20,000 seat Dome built on NDSU property. NDSU pays nothing.

Newman Field (baseball) gets built on NDSU property with city and private money. NDSU pays nothing.

After that, NDSU tried to get the city of Fargo to build them a hockey arena near the Fargodome. Voters said no.

NDSU tried to get the city of Fargo to build them a basketball arena downtown. Voters said no.

NDSU tried to get the city of Fargo to build them a basketball arena attached to the Fargodome. Public said no.

NDSU has been fundraising for a BSA upgrade for how many decades?

Well griznation, at least you avoid NDSU next year and allow msu to get killed by ndsu instead!

Bohl ends up with $300k after incentives. His new wife is in radio in Fargo, his son plays at d2 Moorhead minn state and with a 8 year contract he can push for NDSU to become fbs

More like, other FBS teams have found out from Nebraska all the scandals / skeletons in Bohl's closet (Petrino's case is nothing compared to it), that Bohl has realized he'll never get an FBS chance.

NDSU's AD has been applying for all kinds of MAC AD jobs, but hardly gets interviewed. In the meantime, the University of South Dakota, which hasn't done anything in football, has had lost two AD's to MAC schools. Guess integrity has nothing to do with that situation.

Dunno about NDSU, but the U of M chit in that basket. Got the C of C and taxpayers to rebiuild our track facilities for what it could do for the community. Turned down use request from High school association numerous times for a state track meet.....

Christ, Undfan, your stupidity knows no bounds. Could you quote sources for your bullsh'ite? Can you enlighten us with sources that say Gene Taylor is applying for positions with MAC universities? You say "hardly" gets an interview.....define "hardly"..... does that mean one, two, three, four, or five interviews? I doubt if anyone here on Egriz gives any credence to your posts because your sole purpose for posting is the denigration of an in-state rival university. You remind readers of Bobcat fans, minus the mispellings and dangling modifiers. Also, what's with the highliting of the word "new" ....... oh my God, Coach Bohl is the first coach to be a divorcee. You are a piece of work. Stay on XXXXXsports.com.

Lakesbison hits here again. Has the State Patrol been investigating you again?

So you are saying Bohl wasn't run out of Lincoln on a rail?  Hey, we believe you. ;)

Who's your daddy? (Often heard in Lincoln.)

Well, if I'm Lakebison, you must be that idiot "Fetch" from XXXXXXsports.com........the writing style is the same as well as the idiotic and outlandish statements. So, Fetch, not saying CB didn't get fired from his DC coordinator position with the Huskers. Lots of coaches get fired in their careers. Do the names Reid, Smith, Gailey, Crennel, Shurmur, et al ring any bells? So, what's with Cary Eades getting the axe at UND? What's the real story?

Wow you sure are dumb - What facility does und have? Hockey - no owned by REA. FB - no owned by city. BB - no owned by REA, Baseball - no owned by city. All your posts are out right lies and at best half truths. Now get back to school I think I hear your algebra 1 teacher calling. You seem to forget that most of the BSC doesn't want you.....
