NDSU vs UNI

It doesn't matter, but after the punt the ball should have been placed at the 1. Big Sky refs?
Why? The UNI returner picked it up and bright it back to the 7. Even if he hadn't the ball would have been dead around the three. UNI would have taken that spot over the 1.
The ball was down once NDSU touched the ball, which was at the 1 yard line or so.
No it's not. It's just a spot of first touching. The ball is not dead until it's possessed by the kicking team or dead in possession of the receiving team. That ended at the 7.

I know winning is never boring to the fans, and it is ridiculous to deny the truism that defense wins championships, but the difference between NDSUs style of play and Big Sky football is like the difference between a formula one race and a tractor pull. Yawn. (Yeah, I know, the tractors win.)

You should switch teams I never see you at any Griz away games.

You make us Griz fans look bad when you don't back up your drivel

:coffee:
That's ironic. 'cause I was just about to say the same thing as you. [emoji14]
Huh, didn't see you at Liberty, ISU or NDSU games.........

You were at the ISU game??

well, it's like the "drive for show, putt for dough" analogy in golf. Do you want "sexy", or do you want championships?

Why not both? They are not mutually exclusive ... although it often seems like it.

Edit: 2014 FBS NC, final score 42-20 ... so even with the best athletes, it does not have to be a totally defensive struggle and can have a reasonable amount of scoring.

Actually you can have both if you have dominant line play. Imagine a good QB with as much time as he needs to find a target, and great receivers and backs. With the right horses, you can win with ANY system. :thumb:

Well, the general thought process is it takes ONE kind of defense to win in the Big Sky (fast, agile, thinner D-linemen) and ANOTHER kind of defense to win championships (heavy, run-stuffing D-tackles and monster O-linemen).

My edit about Ohio State at the FBS level was obviously much too slow. As many on here have said, winning the Big Sky (watered down as it now is) is not really a worthy goal ... as we have seen with how peculiar scheduling can mess that up. Still, it seems like you need a D that can do reasonably well in both roles. I think the Griz may have had something approaching the right balance this year ... but the O has to do its part. And -- with no credible running game -- the O could not get the job done. Not calling anybody out ... the Griz O-line improved vastly during the year, and absolutely played their guts out all the way. But sometimes quickness and technique are not enough to overcome being physically over-matched.

G'luck guys.

In any event we won't be above 15th until we get some heavy meat on the D line. We can dart, fake twist and jump around but until we get heavy dudes that can move on BOTH lines we will sit near the back of the front group.

Soon (3years) we will be a more respected team with some girth and power. Unil then we will continue to dart and fake but not allowing us to make a serious run at all the marbles.

What is fun and amazing is the fact that we beat the best team this year right on our home field. The Fargo Dome gives NDSU a hugh advantage no question about it...plus the refs allow them to hold....

Also of serious note, Alpha has a new "slimed" down girl from Fargo!
