NDSU vs a pass happy team

When was the last time NDSU played (and probably beat the snot out of) a QUALITY pass first, pass often team (air raid, west coast etc)? I thought it would be fun to look at how they schemed those games, but I am not finding pass first team that they have played recently.

Within NDSU conference Indiana State is the only team that passes more that it runs, but they are a .500 team

MCV 2014 pass attempts vs rush attempts
Indiana State 574 vs 386
South Dakota St. 428 vs 520
Western Illinois 374 vs 461
Southern Illinois 425 vs 420
Illinois State 372 vs 635
Youngstown State 293 vs 481
Northern Iowa 417 vs 539
South Dakota 364 vs 440
Missouri State 294 vs 527

South Dakota st
Coast Carolina (a spread running team)
SHSU (a spread running team)

2012 playoff opponents

EWU (who they lost too, is this the last good throwing team NDSU played?!?!)

They certainly had talent in the passing game. Jake waters had a good career and Locket and Thompson were dudes. Offensive line was good as well.

It seems to me the way to beat NDSU is to be balanced and have a very athletic QB that can and does run the ball.

In the 2010 EWU loss it was Taiwan Jones and their run game that killed us with big plays and arguably the men in stripes with their bogus personal foul on our center at a very crucial time.

Regarding the ridiculous comment about coaches not valuing TOP? Wtf. Craig Bohl learned that from Tom Osborne. It's more about controlling the game and executing your game plan. If Stitt runs 90+ plays his game plan is probably working. If NDSU wins TOP their plan is probably working.

There is more than one way to skin a cat.

NDSU has lost three times in the last four years. The common denominator in those three losses? Defence. Vs Northern Iowa in 2014. http://espn.go.com/ncf/gamecast?gameId=400557503&version=mobile&gcSection=boxscore&src=desktop
UNI won 23-3 and outgained NDSU 311 to 175 including holding them to 43 yrds rushing. NDSU also committed 12 penalties for almost 100 yards. UNI also forced two NDSU turnover's. NDSU did win TOP by 1:22. Vs Indiana State in 2012, the difference was two pick 6's 17-14 victory for the underdogs. NDSU win the TOP by almost 7 min and outgained ISU 294-197 but three costly INT's were too much to overcome. http://espn.go.com/ncf/gamecast?gameId=322872449&version=mobile&gcSection=boxscore&src=desktop
Youngstown State wasthe only team to truly dominate NDSU outgaining them 451 to 293 and holding a whopping 15:12 TOP advantage and still only won the game 27-24. http://espn.go.com/ncf/gamecast?gameId=313162449&version=mobile&gcSection=boxscore&src=desktop

Looks like to me if our D cant win the day, then NDSU will probably walk out of WaGriz with another victory no matter how the O performs.

The NDSU coach stated after the game that they would not see another passing team this year, with they quality of receivers the Griz has.

One of the biggest reasons that NDSU has not played a pass heavy team the last 4 years is that those teams usually seem to fizzle out during the playoffs.

With that being said, I wouldn't go on to say that passing like that would have been able to beat the 2011-2014. Stitt's offense Definately showed you how to beat the 2015 NDSU Bison who have a very young defense and at this point is a shell of what they once were.
