I’ve become a bigger fan of D2, FCS and the military academies as money has taken over the FBS.Money has ruined college sports. Bottom line. Even the Olympics are unwatchable. Sad.

I think people are finally waking up to the actual reality that they aren't the premier football conference anymore, or at least they are not at all the dominant conference they once were.Perception is reality. There’s a reason SEC had 17 invites to the football playoff.
Obviously doesn't understand ratings.TV markets matter. Montana's weak.
NIL changed that in that the Big 10 has bigger schools and wealthier alumni than the SEC typically so the Big 10 is now the power conference.I think people are finally waking up to the actual reality that they aren't the premier football conference anymore, or at least they are not at all the dominant conference they once were.
Then educate me.Obviously doesn't understand ratings.
Market size is overrated when no one is watching for example Sac State.TV markets matter. Montana's weak.
Broadcasters and advertisers don't care one bit about the number of people in an area. Then educate me.
Idaho, the classic common denominator all the anti-move uppers love to harp on. Keep ignoring everyone else.
it so clearly is notBut it is our dog water.
That’s absurd. The Griz and cats will get a call at some point. It may not be for the next year or two but come 3-5 years they’ll probably get their chance! To be honest, if this shakes out like everyone expects, and UM becomes a third-tier football program, I'd fully support dropping football anlr and becoming a D1 basketball power.
In terms of NFL production FCS and D2 are worlds apart. Tomorrow for example there will be an EWU Eagle alum on both teams. Montana has an alum on the Seahawks. I don’t think there are any D2 players on either Super Bowl team. D2 to NFL is very rare. It’s wild how some use Idaho as some cautionary tale (the singular example) in the move up conversation. But then, around the time of our annual matchup, some of the same people make fun of Idaho’s facilities, location, lack of fan support, etc.
The “can’t compete for NCs in the FBS” crowd gets mind-pretzeled by the suggestion that we should go D2 if we just want NCs. I mean, there are really only two divisions of CFB anyway: FBS and “other”. So, just get more rings in “other”.
Idaho is not a cautionary tale against moving to the FBS. It is a cautionary tale against being in the FBS, not cultivating relationships with your conference peers, not investing meaningfully in athletics to compete, and then being left behind in geographically unwieldy and noncompetitive conferences. You gotta look at all of the circumstances, not just one. It’s wild how some use Idaho as some cautionary tale (the singular example) in the move up conversation. But then, around the time of our annual matchup, some of the same people make fun of Idaho’s facilities, location, lack of fan support, etc.

Now that everyone can pay players rather than the old system of the NCAA pretending not to notice the SEC’s institutional cheating system, the SEC doesn’t like it.I think people are finally waking up to the actual reality that they aren't the premier football conference anymore, or at least they are not at all the dominant conference they once were.
And those same people are aghast if you merely suggest dropping the basketball programs to DII, as then we'd miss out on the glory of the ncaa tournament. It's completely illogicalIt’s wild how some use Idaho as some cautionary tale (the singular example) in the move up conversation. Are we sure? Why would the existing teams want to split their pot of money even further? Look at the P4 right now. They're certainly not welcoming new teams with open arms. That’s absurd. The Griz and cats will get a call at some point. It may not be for the next year or two but come 3-5 years they’ll probably get their chance!
the point is to compete, and proving how good you actually are. That means going to the highest level you can share the proverbial field with. And those same people are aghast if you merely suggest dropping the basketball programs to DII, as then we'd miss out on the glory of the ncaa tournament. They have all the teams they want, and they're roughly the same 60 some teams (some new ones around the edges, and some old ones have fallen off) that have been in power conferences since WW2Are we sure? Cool. I’m talking about college football. There is the top division, and then a group of lower divisions that, in the minds of the vast majority, have distinction without difference. In terms of NFL production FCS and D2 are worlds apart. Tomorrow for example there will be an EWU Eagle alum on both teams. Montana has an alum on the Seahawks. I don’t think there are any D2 players on either Super Bowl team. D2 to NFL is very rare.
Ok, but if we both moved up would viewership be consistent during regular season games outside of Montana folks? I may be wrong, but most folks are tuning into their respective teams. If we were on TV at the same time as bigger programs are people watching? Maybe I'm too pessimistic....Broadcasters and advertisers don't care one bit about the number of people in an area.
They care about the number of people whose asses are planted on their couch with their remote locked on one channel. Simply look at the ratings for the semifinal. I guarantee advertisers took notice.
