NDSU/Montana should be in Mountain West!

I honestly believe the magic number for BCS conferences will eventually be 16 teams in whatever BCS playoff format that is driven by the Power 5 conferences. If that will be the case the PAC 12, Big 12, and Big 10 (please change the conference names too) there will some major shifting. It make sense for the team in the more populated areas to encourage expansion. By doing that they are really challenging the likes of the PAC 12 and the MWC. Fact is, it is hard for the western conferences to fill those spots with quality programs. You know damn well the PAC 12 will fight like hell to find an additional 2 to 4 teams for expansion, if their hand is forced.

Seriously, think long and hard about this, what 2 to 4 teams would make sense for the PAC 12 to add? In my opinion, the teams in Texas hold a lot of power in this. Baylor, TCU, Texas, Houston and SMU could all be battled for among. Baylor, TCU, and Texas are in perfect position for Big 12, Pac 12, Big 10, and SEC could all be battling for those programs. I doubt the PAC 12 could get more than 1 or 2 Texas teams in all this. So that leaves 2 more schools to prospect for, who are the teams to choose from?

Colorado State is investing and has a lot of corporate backing in preparing to make their case to join Colorado in the PAC 12. Their new stadium will be outstanding as well.

Boise State has the recent athletic history, but needs to dramatically better their academics to be a serious contender.

BYU makes a lot of sense in terms of finances, competitive teams, and a natural rival with Utah.

Nevada has the facility for basketball. What more would they have to do?

Would Air Force even be considered?

Also keep in mind, Notre Dame's hand will eventually be forced. Also Army and Navy may no longer be able to remain independents.

San Diego State has made nice progress the last decade in both basketball and football. There geography is perfect. I really know very little about them.

What other schools/programs would be under consideration, if more expansion is needed ?

At that point, their is another major division shift and reclassification of NCAA football, and the likes of NDSU and Montana will be in a better position with how everything will play out. As for UND and MSU, they better hope all this takes longer to play out. They are not in position to make a move like this. UND has the luxury of oil money to help their cause. MSU has a lot of plans on the table, but may be limited in resources and the timing of doing what needs to be done.

I honestly don't see why the U of M would be investing so much just for them to stay put and status quo? Jim O'day has been firm believer as AD, and still now as a business man that there will be major changes which will impact the GRIZ majorly. He has been pretty damn accurate so far in what has taken place to date. The final step is letting all this play out around us, then let all the pieces all fall into place.

I honestly believe NDSU and Montana will eventually be conference foes. The question is how long will it all take?

Fullerton essentially offered NDSU an invitation last summer in the papers.

An FBS Big Sky is coming with Idaho, NMSU and these teams:

Poly
SAC St
UC Davis
EWU
Montana
Montana St
UND

NDSU, SDSU and USD will be invited. NDSU fans will protest a move because they are so butt hurt about rejection a decade ago and they dont want to be in a conference with UND.

You realize this is NEVER going to happen, right?? Like, ever.

Coastal has shown that a school with a stadium less than 10k can go FBS if they build out. Davis, Poly, EWU, and UND all have plans to build out.

The P5 wants to dilute the G5 more. What the P5 want, they get.

Here you are again, proffering up ideas that come to you while in your mom's basement as fact.

"An FBS Big Sky IS coming..."
"NDSU, SDSU and USD WILL be invited..."

A little tidbit of info on the Texas teams....it's a "given" in this state that where Texas goes, so goes Texas Tech. Houston & SMU are at least two rungs below those teams, but I could see Texas & Texas Tech along with maybe Baylor & TCU going to the Pac-16 or possibly Baylor & TCU follow A&M to the SEC...

I knew I was forgetting someone, that was Texas Tech.

The Pac will not take religiously based schools. TCU, Baylor, SMU, and especially BYU need not apply, the Pac will NEVER take them. BYU fans know this that is why they are hoping and praying for a Big 12 invitation. It is their only real hope for a P5 conference invitation. That said, the Big 12 could have taken BYU long ago if they had wanted to. BYU's "no Sunday play" policy combined with their hard to deal with prima donna reputation makes BYU a tough sell even for the depleted Big 12.

San Diego State being under the "California State University" system banner will not get in either. The "UCs" along with Stanford and USC look down on the Cal States.

The PAC 12 may have to make some exceptions being there are not many more options out west that even somewhat fit the conference. Could they send out some feelers for Nebraska, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Kansas, Kansas State? I feel Nebraska is a better fit where they are at though and it would take something drastic to raid the Big 12 of any teams (including the Texas teams).

By process of elimination, is it really too unrealistic for Boise State to become a player for consideration? Does Air Force and/or Colorado State have a chance?

I think the four schools with the best chance of moving to the PAC, or the four the Pac would want are: Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, and Oklahoma State. Maybe, Kansas. Nebraska will stay in the Big Ten.

Colorado State may have tiny chance, too. I think CU would blackball them, however. I think the academically snobby Pac would really have to hold their nose to invite Boise.

I think I read that Air Force was approached by the Big 12 a few years ago and said "no" because they didn't think they could compete in all sports in a P5 league, especially women's sports.

Who knows anything could happen, I suppose.....

In the Mountain, schools received 4.1 million for just having a football team. They are not going to add schools that will shrink that amount. Big12 schools said they are happy with 10 schools because in 2 years there will not be a limit on number of schools required for a championship game. The ACC, Big Ten, Big 12, SEC, Pac 12 and Mountain will probably vote schools out that don't bring $$$$$.

so have ndsu and um call espn and cbs and agree to pay the mwc an additional 10 million a year to offset the loss of revenue to the other mwc schools. there is the invite. assuming you overcome the who gets to play boise and not losing cali recruiting exposure issues in conference alignments. also let mwc ADs know that no texas schools will be considered.

Are you ponying up that $10 mil for the Griz? Or do you know someone who has a money tree?

What are we going to do to raise the other $5 million?

Yea exactly.

Or NDSU / MONTANA covers the travel expense for all football teams for first 2 years in MWC. (5 TIMES EACH YEAR BIG DEAL!)

then agree to a big entry fee.
