NDSU Bison scouting report

I'll add on to the big play part.

I think we need big plays from multiple guys. We want to spread their secondary thin trying to keep our receivers in front of them. Ben Roberts and hopefully someone else (Curran/Lucas/Justin Calhoun) will need to keep them from stacking up on Jamaal and Hendu.

Solid point, I'd say that obviously our best big play potential guy is Hendu - he had big plays in each scrimmage, he had big plays when depressed and sick as a dog last year at NDSU, and he's always been a playmaker when healthy. Jones I think some Griz fans are casting aside but this guy is the complete WR - he's our legit #1 WR. Roberts I like a lot to win some jump-ball battles. Watch for some surprise guys too, Burke, Carlson, or Janssen.
Oh I wouldn't cast aside Jamaal, very durable and steady hands. Definitely the heart and soul of our WR unit. I am interested in seeing how Janssen does taking Naccarato's WR spot, he doesn't exactly fit the body type that Stitt wants in that position....but he must have some wheels and is at least reliable.

If Gus plays good we have a chance. If he can exploit there weakness on defense and march down the field, burning clock were in the game. He has come a long way since last fall. I hope he can handle the pressure and just relax and play....

Gus is a gamer. If he has time and his reads are right all will be good with him. It's the o-line that scares me a bit.

Emanual won the Buchanan Award not the Peyton Award

There is no such thing as the Peyton Award.
Are you saying there is no "Peyton Award" because it is properly titled the "Walter Peyton Award"? Seems like splitting hairs to me...

No, Im saying it because it's the "Walter Payton Award".

Isn't that what he just said? I only posted that because BW had that he won the Peyton award in his write up.

I pray our OL gives Gus time to pass, and not have to rush things. My other concern is how our kicking and punting coverage teams. If those those things are good, I like our chances. I expect to come out passing to set up the run. Passing is the strength of the offense from what I saw in the scrimmages. We will be fools to try establishing the run with the way our OL looked run blocking.

Peyton Manning sure has screwed up the legacy of Walter Payton!! ;)

Question to those "in the know".
Since school started up did the team continue to practice each day, or did they have time off?

PS. Nice write up BW. Good job as always.

I think the team had off Fri, Sat and Sun, after going almost every day during preseason but not having many double sessions. They had some long practices instead of two practices. Think they were given an unexpected day off several weeks ago. The coaches and players began focusing on the Bison on Monday.

I think in Stitt's offense the passing game is similar to the 49ers with Montana at quarterback except Stitt's is based on speed of execution. Short passes to receivers taking what the defense gives them, longer routes if opportunity knocks, tempo is used to wear on the defense in the first half. When your defense has been on the field for 45 plays in the first half they get a touch slower, that is when the running game starts, the second half we'll see the running game not the first when the defense is maybe a 1/2 step slower.
