NDSU Athletic Success

Potomac, when did the Griz beat a 5 seed? When did NDSU beat a 5 seed? When did Montana win a FCS Championship? When did NDSU win a FCS Championship? Now look at those dates and tell me which program has had the most success lately? Now tell me were each program was 10 years ago. If you can not pick up on the pattern, then it is pointless to explain anymore.

Of course NDSU has had more basketball success lately (as in this year) than the Griz. No one over here is arguing that. Not going to get into the football discussion since this is a basketball discussion.

My point is that people like Tip and Alpha gushing all over NDSU's 1 victory in the NCAA tournament while discounting the accomplishments that the Griz have in recent history is ridiculous. Yes, NDSU's win was impressive... so was the Griz's back in 2005-2006. Oddly enough I don't remember Alpha or Tip over here gushing about how great the Griz were after that... In fact Tip even talked about that win as being not really a big deal... yet somehow NDSU's is?

Most everyone over here understands that the Big Sky is horrible and dragging down the programs in the Big Sky. You and tip aren't exactly giving us mind blowing information by constantly pointing it out. We all know that's the case. We all know the Summit league for basketball is lightyears ahead of the Big Sky. No one is arguing that either. The Griz and any other team in the Big Sky that has a decent season is going to be severely affected by the Big Sky's always horrible RPI and therefore not respected as a good mid major program even if they have the talent to be one.

Anyway, this is a Griz & Big Sky Basketball section, not the "kiss NDSU ass" section of the board that Alpha and Tip seem to be trying to turn it into because NDSU had a great year in basketball. One great year in basketball doesn't make them some amazing program on the rise that's going to be up there with the big dogs every year.

No, they are demonstrating how a forward thinking University makes their athletic program stronger. This thread is all about how UM is failing and if they don't take the steps now, and it is probably too late for many, then the future will only get worse. So you are missing the entire point that Alpha and Tip are trying to make. This also goes well beyond the Athletic Department, it is the entire University.

I agree that NDSU is heading in the right direction and has better leadership. I also agree that the U of M seems to be heading in the wrong direction or at least just stagnating... And of course as always the U of M is showing they don't give a rats ass about the basketball program.

Once again (as usual) you are attempting to show that you, tip and alpha are the only enlightened ones around here and everyone else is an idiot who can't see the obvious. Fact is we DO see the obvious. No one is arguing with you on it either. One can agree with all of that while still acknowledging and not minimizing the accomplishments that the Griz BB program have had in recent history.

In fact I'd say that it's pretty impressive that the Griz BB program has had such recent success considering the fact that the U of M didn't even care enough to keep their rosters updated for many of those years and did stupid shit like schedule games for a weekday at 3pm. We've only had one AD lately that seemed to give a rats ass about Basketball.

The frustrating part is, how long has NDSU been at this level? How long has Montana been at this level? Montana has been stuck in the same place for how long? Yet NDSU is passing us by, why is that?

It is because too many fans and powers to be for Montana work against Montana actually moving forward. Seriously, it is frustrating, we accept no to very little progress. Meanwhile the fans, and powers to be at NDSU are thinking with foresight, and actually making plans to advance, and busting ass to do so.

In a nutshell, why is Montana so damn gun shy to actually think proactively and put together some plans to move forward? We are forever a teenager. We refuse to grow up. We refuse to change for the better. We have the mindset of being content, and scare to be motivated to do what is needed to better ourselves.

Seriously, when if ever will Montana ever catch up to the NDSU's of the world and actually accept things as a challenge and stop cowering to the challenge in front of us? It is very disappointing we don't have enough people with the ability to use foresight in all this.

Potomac, focusing on the little things instead of the big picture. Funny how you seem to agree with everything that Alpha, Tip, and I posted but you still want to argue about it.

You just love to try to play the "we are smarter than you all" card and create disagreements when there are none don't you?

As for the little things, I'm not focusing on the little things at all. I'm just stating that ignoring them or minimizing them as not at all important while hyping up the same "little thing" at NDSU is ridiculous.

Out of curiosity, what's the fix for the problem in your mind? Lets just go with the basketball program (since this is the basketball section). Was Hogan right when he went out to try to find a big name coach, had a very ambitious schedule and had dreams of turning the Griz into a sweet 16 team? Curious for your thoughts on that... Sure Kennedy didn't work out as a coach for the Griz, but was it the right idea?

It would be nice to have an athletic department that cared about the Griz BB program again... We have a good coach and recruiter now, but seem to be lacking leadership in other areas.

It's been a great year of the perfect storm for NDSU and that translated into the NCAA basketball win which catapulted NDSU into the nations spotlight for 2 straight days.

NDSU wins 2nd straight fball title, then beats defending big 12 champ K-state on fox sports 1, then ESPN GAMEDAY comes to town for that and in December NDSU beats Notre Dame in basketball before winning 3rd title.

It's been a great run, NDSU basketball should continue into next year as a top 2-3 team in summit with a shot at NCAA berth again.

You griz fans can cheer for us as we play Montana St next year
