NCAA Tournament Expansion

Well, like it or not, a 96-team field certainly seems to be coming:

yep. count me as a guy who doesn't like change. but the more i think about it, and the more i have accepted that it's probabaly gonna happen, i'm putting a positive spin on it. for one, brackets are gonna be better than ever to fill out! and as it is right now, i always take that thursday and friday off to start the tourney and do nothing but watch hoops for 4 days straight! looks like i'll be making that a week straight in the near future!

Could a 96-team field have the effect of spreading talent around?

Some mid major teams are regularly in the regular season/tourney title mix.

Those coaches during recruiting could highlight their (better) NCAA tourney probabilities, at the same time pointing out to talented sleepers (like Cherry) that they would play regularly from the get go.

Blue chippers of course would still go to the big 6 conferences, but it seems to me that sleepers (who would likely sit for awhile at big 6 programs) might be enticed by these factors (play right away, good chance to make NCAAs).

The effect would be a mid major team better capable of winning in the NCAA,at least in early rounds.

It has to be about the television money... was I the only one who noticed the arenas were 90% empty for men's games (san's Elite 8 finals) and the women's tourney looked like a parent's-only invitation. The NCAA should just shuck the East-West-South-Midwest joke and ranks the schools 1-96 or whatever. Until they get back into "true" regionalization, quit insulting us by putting Syracuse as the West #1 with an opening game in Buffalo NY. AND... the Griz, Lobo's and Huskies in the Eastern bracket in San Jose, CA.

The arena's were not 90% empty. I have been to the 1st & 2nd tournament 14 different times in places like Seattle, Tempe, Spokane, Salt Lake, Boise & Portland & every time the arena was 90-100% full. And the arena was always full despite the fact that there were often 2 east coast teams playing each other. Just watching on TV can be deceiving because the areas you can see on TV are usually the sections where fans from teams who are not currently playing sit & a lot of those folks don't actually show up until their team plays.

Come on you guys. A 14-14 North Carolina or UConn would beat a 25-3 Montana 9 out of 10 times. Stength of schedule is the key to respect. Being in a weak Conference will always haunt Montana.

While I don't think ronbo is right on the 9 outta 10...I do think it's time to get on up outta the BSC. Double edged sword, I think it hurts football, but I think it helps basketball...What to do?
