NCAA sanctions end?

That's actually not the case. It's a popular belief here but he's actually very supportive of athletics as a whole.
Nope, Engstrom not supportive of athletics. Became president without having a clue about how athletics fits into the school and its importance, and pre-conceived negative notions about athletics. His idea of supporting athletics was to attend games. Has made multiple mistakes that has hurt athletics. Volunteered the ncaa sanctions, didn't properly fight the ncaa, didn't even hire a lawyer with ncaa experience for 6 months, and threw people under the bus. Later, refused to go back to ncaa to try to get sanction reduced. Picked a weak interim AD. Supported Pat Williams who was unfairly dissing UM football and players. Supported his dean who was unfairly targeting players. Not one player who got a lawyer was tossed out of school, or ultimately had legal problems, except for one who plead guilty. Insisted on building an unnecessary academic center before pursuing projects more important to athletics. Unfairly fired a successful head coach and AD. That was a huge setback for UM. Is rumored to be wanting to reduce drinking at stadium tailgating. It is remarkable that UM football is still has good as it is, with all the things Engstrom did to it and his lack of knowledgeable support. He just doesn't get it.
All pretty much true. He knows nothing about athletics, particularly football. A good proportion of this vacancy in his brain is filled by his faculty, many of whom are envious of the attention, popularity, revenue capability and clout football has. They detest that football is a key pillar of UM's identity. Many of his ill-fated decisions have been pushed by wings of the faculty.

Is there any way the admin would fight for a reduction of time? I may already know the answer to this...

Nope, we tried that last year. Engstrom researched it, talked to an Attorney in KC who was experienced with appeals and determined based on the consult it wasn't worth the effort. The main issue was that we self imposed it.

Partially true. Engstrom did nothing other than contact a junior attorney in a firm experienced in ncaa matters. In my view, Engstrom didn't ask the question properly. He almost invited a negative answer. I suggested the law firm, as I had once called the senior partner about other matters, and called the firm. Engstrom was not interested in pushing the matter very far or hard, or spending much money. In fact, the QB Club had to push him pretty hard to do what he did.

I haven't lived in Montana for years. Is this really true or is it just easy to use this excuse? Can people provide examples please? I just hear it here all the time so was wondering.

I should have added some more to my post, my feedback on if he "does" or "doesn't" support athletics comes from the people I talk to and work with in athletics. They've pointed out his involvement at events, in support of fund raising efforts, and commitment to financial projects and expansions has been better than Dennisons was for the most part.

PR your points obviously don't come up from athletics employees. However from me, as a fan, many of your points are accurate. I would assume that he believes many of these actions were actually to help the team/athletics, when we can still see the effects are still hurting the team and athletics (especially the ncaa sanctions)

Some of us are working (behind the scene) to to speed up the change of leadership at the university. One of our problems at the moment comes from the lack of a general attitude of the every day person. Many know about our football coach but don't even know the name of our president. But it will come if we continue to push forward. If he was our football coach and after 3 years had a record of 3 and 31 it would be an easy task to fire the guy.
