NCAA possibly going to 5 years

This is so stupid. I would have to think there is a court or a judge somewhere that would come to the realization that it takes most kids 4 years to graduate college, and college athletes should be treated the same way. Everybody hates the NCAA which is why they keep losing in court, but at some point rational minds have to prevail and point out that this is higher education. Despite the fact that it doesn't feel like that anymore.

I assume that the Big FBS schools will soon go their own way in football. P4 or top 60 or whatever. Later, men's and women's basketball will follow, or break off from the ncaa model with the rest of D1. Don't know where this cut off would be. Talk of Sabin running this group.

Bottom of FBS will then have to figure out something, and will probably be able to get enough tv revenue to do that. Their own playoff system?

FCS might be left hanging. I suppose a few could try to join the bottom of FBS. There's a huge need for something in this large slot, but what about revenue? Today there's not much FCS tv or other revenue either, so not much difference other than eventual loss of ncaa hoops tourney revenue and subsidization for the upper FBS schools. What scholarship numbers? What, if any, NIL rules? Revenue-sharing? What revenue to share?

Bottom of FCS would have to fund themselves, with their states, fans, some ticket revenue and student fees. Some to D2?

What about basketball at either of those non-top levels? Would the top FBS schools keep the bottom fBS schools for basketball? Maybe.

How much does the top of FBS need FCS schools for scheduling football, and basketball? How much does the bottom of FBS need FCS for scheduling football and basketball?

Would the ncaa remain to oversee all of the other and non-revenue sports? Many of the top schools and FBS schools care about those other sports. More and different regional conferences for those other sports, to save on travel, travel time, and costs?

Like some others, like HHB, I am starting to lose interest. Too much greed. Too much Portal movement. Too much changing of conferences and teams, and lost of regional and traditional rivalries. Too much influence by NIL. I can't imagine that some states, regents and legislatures won't start losing interest too.

Minor league football now. Hell, why even make ‘em go to school?
might be "minor league" but for some they getting paid more in college than what they would in their rookie contracts in the NFL. Quite interesting to see players and backups in college making more than NFL players. Back-up QB at Texas (Manning) in in the Millions. Brock Purdy in year 3 of NFL is under a million. (Although he about to get paid).

Your last paragraph is spot on. The greed has gutted what made college football so great. We all have rightful gripes against the NCAA. The benefit of the NCAA was to keep the powerful and monied interests in check. It often failed. The NCAA now appears as mostly impotent.

At this point the barbarians are at the gate.

HHB nailed it above. The great game we all grew up with is likely gone forever.

The NFL is already by far the most popular sports league in the US. They have to be thinking this disfunction in NCAA could lead to them establishing minor leagues throughout the nation.
