I agree, but I think the better question is, why does he NCAA allows a non-scholarship program into the division I FCS if they can't afford 63 scholarships?

What's had me scratching my head about SDU is, if you are a school that emphasizes academics (average freshman GPA is 3.9) and you don't want to provide scholarships, why wouldn't you play in DIII? Theoretically, that's the whole purpose of DIII (isn't it?) Playing non-scholarship football in FCS seems like an exercise in futility.

San Diego plays non-scholarship FCS football so all their other sports can be D1.

They are a member of the WCC, so they compete with Gonzaga. I would say success is mixed.

Not stupid at all! A mans opinion that I happen to agree with. Why should a non scholarship conference lock up a playoff spot at the expense of other teams. We have at least two teams in the Big Sky that are more deserving than San Diego.

I think the NCAA should quit letting the BSC have an automatic bid into the NCAA basketball tournament since they have no shot and currently seem to get embarrassed more than not

This is what I was thinking also. We are Duke, Kansas, etc. and USD is the Big sky winner.
