What's had me scratching my head about SDU is, if you are a school that emphasizes academics (average freshman GPA is 3.9) and you don't want to provide scholarships, why wouldn't you play in DIII? Theoretically, that's the whole purpose of DIII (isn't it?) Playing non-scholarship football in FCS seems like an exercise in futility.
San Diego plays non-scholarship FCS football so all their other sports can be D1.
