NCAA incompetence is unbelievable

I was wondering how it's their fault that Frisco wasn't prepared for this.

I wonder when the agreement for site renewal is coming up, this is the 3rd year in Frisco, correct? That's a soccer stadium and I doubt they'd put artificial turf in it. I know Chattanooga, in order to keep the title game, changed their field after the 2004 NC field issue.

Would have been a nice day for a game in Missoula today. Would UM consider bidding again for the Championship game. At least the teams would be guaranteed a good field to play on.

I vote Vegas!!!! State that does not have an FCS team so no home state field advantages plus it's easy and cheap to fly to Vegas. Couple that with all there is to do there and that game would draw fans from even moderate fan bases. I just think Vegas is a better destination spot that Frisco! For sure more than Chatty.

Actually PR is responsible for the field in Frisco...at least on par with the NCAA
 
So...Frisco can do whatever they want with the champ game cuz they won the bid and the NCAA has no liability if something goes wrong?

I personally have no idea how it works but that doesn't seem correct at all.

That's a fantastic idea. When UNLV plays a team with even a moderate fan base the place is packed because you get to see your team play and spend time in Vegas. 65 and sunny today.

That is a great idea. When UNLV plays a team with even a moderate fan base the place is crowded because you get to see your team play and come to Vegas. 65 and sunny today.
 
Per the ESPN recap "This was the fourth consecutive year the title game was played in the professional soccer stadium in North Texas, but this game was plagued by problems with the grass turf. During each timeout, groups of workers and volunteers had to pat down chunks of turf that were coming up during play.

Nick Shafer, the stadium's vice president of operations, said in a statement that the turf between the hash marks was replaced Nov. 18. Soon after that, the area was hit by an extended stretch of unusual freezing weather and ice sat on the field for a week. Shafer says that "prevented the grass from taking root underneath the turf."

Thanks all for the clarification that this was Frisco's responsibility. It seems that if my NCAA brand was so negatively impacted by outsourcing my product, I would seize control of quality, including the field standards.

That may be true but we outdraw any MAC team, Ohio led the MAC at 21 grand in 2012.

Let's not forget that the big 4/5 conferences will soon kick the dregs to the curb, if you can't see that, I can't help you.

You are delusional if you think we will see a big conference school ever play here.

I'd like to see us compete with WAC/Mwest teams rather than PSU and ISU or SUU. It won't happen until the big dogs kick the lower 50 in FBS out, and that will happen. Then let's talk about getting into that group of schools and having a playoff scenario at that level...we can't compete money wise with the big dogs and espousing that is nuts. :?

This will never happen as the NCAA will no longer play championship events in a place that allows sports gambling if they don't have to. This came up a few years ago with Delaware or some other school I believe.

That is just crazy really. I do not gamble or bet myself but can't anyone go online and place a bet should they wish to? Or do you have to be there to do so?

I have a hunch if the NCAA could work out deals with some of the hotels / casinos for a % of room fees I bet they would no it. Sort of a promotion to get the two fan bases to travel and stay at the same hotel and could even put on an event for the fans with dinners etc. kind of like going to a conference down there. If there was $ for the NCAA they would do it!

Actually is a good idea. The down side is Vegas is very far from every potential school. However, typically Las Vegas has as reasonably priced airfares as anywhere in the country. This is a relatively slow time of year for them and they have a surplus of hotel rooms. Weather would rarely be a factor (unlike Chattanooga's rain). UNLV has an appropriate sized stadium. Overall Vegas could be a good venue.
 
Vegas would be awesome! I would go no matter who was playing. Only an 8 hour drive for me.

The only way it can be done online is through an offshore. If you are betting online, it's not from Nevada. There are a couple exceptions where there are some apps affiliated with some NV casinos that can allow you bet as long as your phone's location services are on and you are in NV. They won't work if you leave the state.

As greedy as the NCAA is, I don't think the NCAA takes that deal even if they did make an exception to their gaming rule. The hypocrisy would be way to far over the top, for the relatively small amount of money it would generate for them.

These deals don't typically come from the casinos anyways. It's the Las Vegas Visitors and Convention Authority or something like that. Might be some cover for the NCAA not working directly with Gaming, but the group is funded in large part through gaming. They do have some money sitting around now though now that they lost the National Finals Rodeo to Orlando.
