Hoping the young lad from Helena is going to be the answer. If they don’t convert him to another position, which is what Hauck and his staff seem to do quite frequently.

It was well understood by most that Graves and Rostad would be converted to other positions if that's who you're referring to. Don't know why that surprises people. The coaches said as much. To my knowledge Huot was recruited with full intention to play QB. He still has to play well there and develop, but that is the long term plan for him as far as I know. With that said, wherever he fits best is where he should play. This idea that one guy is the answer to everything seems a bit silly. You're only as good as your backup, just look at our record the last two years when our backup finishes the game versus our starter. That will tell you everything.

You know that neither of those, Graves or Rostad, are who he is referring to as neither of them are from Helena

one hellava pass......very deserving by a very good qb. if we were so lucky to get a qb like that.
our recruiting for this position becomes more of a question mark.......watching both of these qb's today.

Huh? The Helena reference was to "the lad" from Helena who I assume is Huot. The comment about converting wasn't specified as anything do with Helena, just that players who play QB in high school tend to get converted by the staff. Maybe you can explainin what I am missing in my reading of his comment.

I wouldn't hold my breath with the current staff being able to get a HS QB to be a top level BSC QB. Greatest predictor of the future is the past and it isn't worth a shit. This staff only has successful QB's that came here with the ability via transferring from programs that can develop it is plenty evident. Hell on that 3rd down play we would have thrown for a 5 yard gain....some teams play to win and others to not lose.

Yes, thats why Graves spent his entire first two seasons as a QB. Because he was recruited for a different position.

I could be completely wrong here, but I believe we have only lost one game in the last two years with our starting QB playing the whole game (Idaho)? If so, my point stands. All American, All conference, whatever, we're only as good as our backup no matter how unsexy that reality is. And that has been the reality.

I may have misinterpreted your comment in relation to previous to quoted comments, one complaining about not giving, assumedly, Britt a chance at QB to see what he can do when we obviously are not making any progress with Brown, and the other pessimistically speculating that we have a habit of converting a majority of the HS QB's into other positions. I agree with your comment that we need a reliable backup and I also agree with GT's comment that Britt should have at least gotten a couple of series over the past couple of games considering the ineptness of our offense during those games… Not sure how much worse we could have done with him.

Lol. Wrong again. He was given an opportunity to compete there initially, yes. He was also a top safety in the state in high school. Ran the ball a little his freshman year and played reciever his second year before converting to safety. I know the guy so I actually have an idea. Also, he'll end up a multiyear impact player on a great defense so there's that.

It was one hell of a pass play, still kind of lucky though :-)

And I agree with your assessment in comparison to our QB's but we really don't know what Britt can or can't do at this point… Both of these team's sure seem to trust their QB's to make plays a lot more than we trust ours, with the exception of Lucas, and understand that turnovers are going to happen from time to time without letting that get in the way of play calling or letting players try to make plays

I agree. Would have loved to see Britt.

agree......lets see what Britt can do, hopefully he can see some of the field in the next 2 games.

R. J. Martinez, sophomore QB for NAU, was 34-46 passing, for 452 yards, 3 TDs, and 0 Interceptions against the Cats. Once again, how can these Big Sky schools continue to recruit great high school QBs, and we can't?

8-) it

We can and do. But then we move them to other positions and get a QB from the transfer portal.

Gutty lil’ Bubbies gutted out another one by 3. This time against the 3-6 Fisty & Co. Impressive.

You are right CDA. Was not pretty. Cat’s had their bad game but still win. I will take it!

Yes, they did. If that was representative of their pass defense, 11/19 should be a lot of fun.

The difference between NAU and the Griz offense is that they have a really good QB. Yes, the Cat pass defense had an off day but Martinez is a very accurate passer when he is on his game. For some reason the Cats always struggle in that dome. A win is a win. Tommy Mellot is a gamer.
