National Rankings For UM Defense

We haven't gotten to conference play and you guys already comparing stats of this years defense to last years...

I'd like to see how these numbers look after we face NAU, Cal Poly, and EWU.

Maybe let's not be pumping our chest about our defense after beating two teams who are not exactly known for their offenses.

UNI was 59th in total offense last year and Saint francis was 70th.

Post the rules for next year so we don't do this again. :thumb:

And, did you just try to relate stats from last year?

Solid work.

*facepalm* I was just making a statistical point that the offenses we played have nothing on EWU, NAU, or Poly.

If you want to use the small data set of this year, then sure

UNI is 51st and St. Francis is 89th

But the reason I didn't use those was because I know you guys will say it was the Griz defense that kept them down.

The point is simple. After we start to play the top offenses in the FCS, that are in our conference, the numbers you guys are posting will significantly deflate.

But what if they get better???

Are you predicting the defensive stats will get better after UM starts playing the high-powered offenses in the conference?

Rankings are likely to get impacted when the Ivy league starts playing this weekend. Last year, several of the Ivies were ranked up there in defensive stats, and were no. 1 and 2 in scoring defense. Don't think Dartmouth's defense will be nearly as good this year.

What's your explanation of why UM's scoring defense ranking, so far, is just below MSU's? I thought MSU and its defense were supposed to suck this year. Maybe they do.

It's one of the safest bets you can make that it won't

Well they played Bryant and Idaho....good place to start....

Yes, I know who MSU played. I see that Bryant's total offense this year is ranked 19th. Idaho is a bad FBS team. I'm looking for your explanation.

Eriul says the teams UM played are ranked as follows in offense: UNI is 51st and St. Francis is 89th.

I see that EWU is 3d, UNC is 5th, PSU 12th, Bryant 14th, CP 19th, NAU 32d.

I put less merrit into scoring defense and more into who wins the game

Same. That's why I don't understand why people hated Gregorak so much XD

None of you know what your are talking about when it comes to real defense. No team from the Big Fluffy would go .500 in the MVC

Because many felt he was simply blessed with good players and stuck with the status quo. He didn't seem to innovate much with the D and as such, left people wondering if the D could be better than it was.

Hmm, I wonder what's different about this defense and the one last year? Couldn't have anything to do with Gregorak could it?
Looking at the stats from the Scat game, it does seem as though he translated his scheme to them perfectly. Give up 500 yds but keep them out of the endzone.
Gregorak

Shutout!

WOW!!! The cats shutout the Wolves? Damn! That's awesome! Congrats! You all must be super stoked about shutting down the offensive juggernaut that is Western Oregon!

I was? I don't believe that is an accurate portrayal of my feelings at ANY point this year. And even if it were I would not be over on kittynation posting about it. But than that's why we refer to you all as little brother, always over here looking for just the slightest bit of validation.

Game. Set. Match.

I have some good buddies who are huge bobcat fan and I appreciate them because they are realistic. They said everyone is excited about the defense and turnovers, but don't realize we basically just played three high school teams. Idaho has gotten absolutely destroyed by Washington in Washington state. Bryant got beat by Brown over the weekend. Yes, Brown. And Western Oregon literally looks like a flag football team. Yet the fan base thinks the Cats are scary good. Reality is going to set in harshly when they start playing a couple non high school teams.

One other key point we discussed.....cats have 8 games left and will have to go 6-2 in that stretch to make the playoffs since their D2 win won't count for jack. With 5 of those games being UND, NAU, SUU, EWU and UM, it would be a Christmas miracle to go 6-2 in that stretch. Which is why he wasn't excited about their 55-0 win that doesn't even count. But other cats fans don't seem to get it.
