National Rankings For UM Defense

SeeeeMore Is the best thing to happen to the Griz this year. A very smart coach. Watch how he goes after the Polly Offense. He will make a game plan and our super men will make us all proud. I must also give credit to the great players we have. I like the 3 - 4 defense along with the 4 - 3 and all the variations. Our special teams defense also improved. We could be a damn good team this year. If we get by Poly in a big way we will be tough to deal with!

I thought the relentless attack our D had in that game was amazing considering how much time they spent on the field, like most of the game.
They must have a good conditioning program going to keep them uptempo like that.

Yes, good start. I see that Scoring Defense is 34th in the nation, just behind Montana St.

Oh, and no one has even scored on Dartmouth yet this year.

You gotta admit things don't suck considering it was only Semores 7th game as Montana's DC. He'll catch on.

Nope, his second game. So far so good.

2nd game as the "official" DC. 7th game, unofficially. He had a nice tryout the 2nd half of last season. :thumb:

Oh, BS. Semore became more active in the game planning, but didn't call the plays during the game and wasn't the DC. A DC that doesn't call the plays during the game.? Really? Come on. Don't be stupid.

Stats aside, the defense stonewalled UNI on their last two drives of the game, when it was a one score game. I loved how the scheme stayed aggressive instead of bend don't break.

I agree totally, a few weeks ago I went back and re watched the end of the Poly game. I forgot how bad that last drive was, ran all of the plays to the sideline, not once did we adjust and try to turn the runner up field.

PR, no need to throw out insults like "stupid". I was told by several people that Semore's role was significantly increased the 2nd half of last season. Hence the "unofficial" part of the post. Just because someone does not have an official title, it does not mean they did not have the experience. Several times, I did additional duties than my official title was. Because of that experience, it led me to promotions. Similar to interns at a law firm, they may not have the title, but they do get the experience. Nothing stupid about any of that, other than your insult being uncalled for. :thumb:

Yes, Semore did take on a more significant role later in the season. The role, however, was not DC, and he did not call the plays during the games. Stitt has been quoted saying that. You said Semore was the unofficial DC. That's what I corrected. I said nothing about experience. It wasn't an insult; it was a compliment. Ha.

If Cal Poly's D is close to what we saw last year a patient Griz O that stays out of 3rd and long will be a must. Their D line are bowling balls and their LBs and DBs are all about the same size fast and hard hitting. They stayed in two deep zone last year and they defended our O with nine players and safeties only had to engage when they wanted to. When Griz players touched the ball they were lit-up. That said, bad D calls on last drive made quick go-ahead score for win.

Seymore should have better plan for stopping Cal Poly's fullback and Strong takes good angles on run game, has the speed needed to get to edge and has been excellent with tackles.

Cal Poly's D will always look better on stats when their O rushes for 350+ and have 35+ minutes time of possession.

For a young squad with key players out and not playing yet the Griz D this year looks solid. Who cares how they rank. Young guys are stepping up are fast and not getting pushed around. Glad to have Stitt as head coach and glad to have Seymore. No matter how the chips fall it's great to be a Griz fan.
I do think having Strong is going to be a difference-maker against Poly. He was impressive against UNI. He just never took a bad angle, which has been my biggest knock (only knock really) on Yamen. Strong connected on the player every time, and never let them get away. That's what we'll need against Poly.

Anybody else remember when UM had 3 of these Hamm's bears wandering the sidelines at old Pornblaster stadium?
I remember seeing them on campus. This may have been the DTs though!!

That wasn't old Pornblaster. Sounds like you need a Griz history lesson because that was either medium or new Pornblaster. The real old Pornblaster was only 43 yards long and was located on the sidehill of Mount Jumbo. I know most of you aren't old enough to remember those days. Us real fans remember there were actually nine bears at the games back then, no eleven bears, and a shark. This was back when the Adams Center was the Grizzly Adams Center. Most won't remember that. The student section in the GAC was located on the court in front of the scorer's table, and some of you good fans might remember the year we beat John Wooden in an exhibition. Not UCLA, John Wooden himself. Good times.

It was the one on Higgins where beverage empties and loose women littered the ground under the bleachers by game's end.

I find comments like this so interesting

Skyline Sports @SkylineSportsMT
#BigSkyFB Coaches Call: Stitt said Griz defense is just as they expected it would be under Jason Semore, praises Semore's teaching ability.

AJ Mazzolini @ajmazzolini
Stitt on #BigSkyFB call: Defensive performances what Griz expected under Semore. Stitt knew he would be good teaching DC from time at Mines

http://www.ncaa.com/stats/football/fcs/current/team/22/p2

UM and CP are 21st and 22nd in total D.

61st and 105th are interesting.
